Hi, I know I need to stop drinking. I down a bottle of wine every night. I drink to numb the pain, but ends up making me more emotional & then I do stupid, dumb things out of emotions.

Does anyone deal with this? Also- what do you find as your night time routine to avoid alcohol as a coping mechanism?

I admire your honesty!

It's hard when we don't want to think, we numb it with alcohol.

It's important to find another way to help you cope, that is healthier .

One day at a time.

Perhaps you could start by drinking a glass less each night, and build up to it, this will build up your confidence towards stopping completely.

You deserve to be happy and healthy.

I truly wish you all the best!

When my father was drinking, instead he often watched movies at night or read some good books (and/or he was smoking, which was a horror for all kids in the same bedroom).

When I cannot sleep, I usually read a book. When I am too exhausted to fall asleep, I listen to some music.

One of the recommendable ways of not having a booze at night, I believe, is some positive self-sabotaging: having no alcohol at home (including alcohol-based herbal medicines or sweets containing alcohol).

Thank you for you honesty 👍

Please, tell me, how far you are on your way to recovery? If you have just been starting, I think you are doing some solid first steps.

I drink wine every evening after work and on the weekends. My claim is that it helps me to relax and to escape anxiety about life issues/concerns. A week ago, I joined an app called Sunnyside and I also listen to their Podcast. Check it out, it’s working for me to reduce my daily wine intake. It isn’t meant to help you stop drinking altogether. My wine drinking is a habit after work each evening. I’m working on breaking that habit by doing something else without opening a bottle of wine as soon as I sit in my recliner. I hope this helps!

I have been struggling with alcohol as well, I drink on Thursday and through the weekend. Mostly it is fine unless I start drinking the next morning which is when things start to get reallly bad because then I call people and say things I don’t mean and later I have to make things right and face the consequences which is so hard. What works for me mostly is to never drink during the day
