Does hangxiety get better ?

Since i broke up with my ex girlfriend 2 years ago my relationship with alcohol and drugs got really close, i could drink every day 4-5 beers and party with drugs every weekend for almost a year without getting bad hungovers/calmdowns. After the first year i could feel that my health anxiety (which i didn’t have before abusing substances) was getting worse, to the point that i had mostly bad trips so it wasn’t fun to do drugs anymore and i quitted them.

I kept it going with the alcohol since i still enjoy drinking with friends, i started to moderate it the last few months (i don’t have more than 7-8 drinks weekly) because of many panic/anxiety attacks during the hangovers that last 2 days. I’ve become very anxious with my health to the point that i can’t control it even though i’m staying sober, has anyone developed anxiety because of alcohol or drugs abuse?

Will the hangxiety ever go away or should i become the mysterious guy that orders milk at a bar for the rest of my life?

@redMelon2103 As someone who chose to remain sober at an early point in my adulthood, I often ordered ginger ale or iced tea and asked for it to be poured into a highball glass, just to kind of feel like I "fit in" while staying in my steady space. I could not handle that feeling of being hungover at all, as it literally ruined my next day every time. That was my story, not yours, just sharing that if you did choose to drink milk at a bar you would not be the only one! And you may eventually find others who do or feel the exact same way. Today I hold myself to a very strong 2-drink minimum on the rare occasion that I'm in the mood for a drink, and I don't feel judged at all. I admit that I dislike losing that control, so this is what I do for me.

@redMelon2103 I used substances to treat my anxiety and depression, it worked for awhile. But eventually these substances started working against me. Today, it has been 8 years since I used drugs or drank alcohol. I take care of my mental health in a responsible way and talk to a therapist. I’m also active in service work. Helping others reduces my symptoms and puts me in a positive mindset. Stay true to who you are. You don’t have to drink today or order milk at the bar. But I am the type to pour the whiskey in my milk. 😉
