I can’t live without ssri’s

I broke my back in 2020 jumping out of planes in the us military got medically discharged in 2025. I have been on a roller coaster of emotions along with constant physical pain, and I can’t find a job, even though I’ve been applying and written so many effing cover letters. I have a wife and two kids and I’m a stay at home caregiver now for them while my wife goes and works as a teacher.

In the beginning, I said, drugs were bad for me, and they said I need drugs to live

My injury is taking everything that I loved to do away from me. I have to wear diapers because I can’t control the fact that I keep leaking urine and I can no longer pick up my kids let alone play with them on the ground. I am constantly battling my inner voice. Someone else could do my job better than I could and I feel like I’m worth more dead than alive right now. I can’t quit the SSRIs even if I feel like they’re not working to the point calming me down.

Gosh... I keep remembering a movie I was watching many years ago. It was a story about an Air Force pilot who was tied to a wheelchair as a result of an accident. The guy had suicidal thoughts. His first step to recovery were his friends and wife organising him a flight in the cockpit of a business jet, on a wheelchair...

I am sorry I can't give you any title or link...

I think I can understand your concerns about SSRIs. I know at least one person who found some difficulty to stop taking them. And they also might have some negative side effects on your health... 😕

Sorry if being too straightforward, but are you familiar with the initiatives like Team Invictus? Do you think there are any foundations in California that support veterans with disability issues?

Of course, they maybe will not be able to help you solve the problems connected with the traumas of the distant past. But maybe it's good to find something motivating to start with?...
