i had a moment of realization on valentines day, that substances were sneaking into my life again, that i was drinking and smoking without even realizing i was abusing substances again.... if that makes sense. its easy to ignore the problem, lie to ourselves about it, or simply not even notice it. the point is, all of a sudden, i noticed it. like a "woah what am i even doing?!" i was literally talking to my mother in law about taking actions to better ones life, all while taking actions to worsen my life with substances. well that's all it took! a big "im better than this" moment, "i deserve better, i owe myself better than this" id be lying if i said i wasn't ashamed in that moment. today is day 3 of my new sobriety journey, i choose to be sober, sober for me, sober for good, sober for life.

@justmiles

I admire your honesty so much.

3 days, best of luck as you move forward.

It's easier to lie to ourselves , so you should be proud 🩷🤗

@justmiles That kind of realization can hit hard

The scary part is how quietly it sneaks back in. You don’t wake up planning to slide. It just slowly becomes normal again until one day you step back and think, what am I doing?

That “I deserve better than this” moment is powerful. Not everyone listens to it. You did.

Shame can show up in those realizations, but I hope you don’t let it define the moment. Awareness is not failure. It’s course correction. The fact that you caught it early instead of months or years later says a lot.

Day 3 might feel small, but it’s not. It’s three days of choosing differently. Three days of being intentional instead of on autopilot.

Keep leaning into that why. Sober for you. That’s the one that lasts
