Problem with alcohol
its been an issue with my entire family on my dads side, im trying to break the barrier but every day i wake up wanting to take a shot or have a couple of beers. if i could just somehow make these thoughts stop it would be perfect.
But, everything is so much lighter and nicer when i drink.
The aftermath is obviously terrible but then u just drink again and its fine. i dont want to be like my family, i really dont. but i dont know how to stop it from entering my thoughts.
Its been hard, my siblings dont know i drink almost every night, and i know if they figure it out they would be so disappointed in me.
Does anyone feel this way?

You are at a crossroads you know first hand the destruction of everyday drinking or alcoholism... you say you do not want to follow in those footsteps but in fact you are...
drinking does not make anything better it just makes you numb to how things are really going.
you do not want siblings to know but that fear of disappointment is not enough to stop you.. perhaps your answer to drinking is right there... tell them and use that as your accountability to them as a reason to stop.
Alcohol use starts easy enough ... everyone is doing it and such but when it gets out of hand when it becomes a hidden secret.... it goes downhill from there. As i am sure you know.
I definitely relate. I always think a good first step, when dealing with substance abuse, is talking to a doctor and/or counselor.❤️ I know that addiction can feel so lonely. And those who don’t understand the struggle & recovery process often times will come across as insensitive or ignorant. For me, talking to my doctor helped significantly. With blood work I found out that my body is healthy and we started a plan to treat my mental and emotional health 💜 she also referred me to a counseling service. Substance abuse is never the only thing going on. So taking inventory of all the other aspects of your health is important, I believe.
just remember, everyone struggles. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for being human. And remember that recovery is very much possible 💛
I feel this way. I haven’t been able to get drunk in a long time, but I drink every second of every day. At work, in the morning, I’ll find any reason why. It’s not easy, especially when you know you have a problem and you’re still choosing to do it every day.
I’m just hoping that one day I’ll wake up and realize that life is bigger than this. It helps so much day to day, but then at the same time, what kind of person are we that we have to do this? It’s not easy. It’ll never be easy. It’s hard when people don’t understand the pain you go through every day, but if you manage to find the one thing that keeps you from drinking, don’t let it go. Find reasons to be out all day and find reasons you can’t drink. Be around others constantly. Sometimes you might have to let someone hold you accountable. It’s never going to be easy, and I’m not there yet. Good luck.
AA can help. You know you’re troubled but haven’t sought help. Why?.
Thank you for being real
