Starting a de-addiction journey

Hi there,

It's taken me a while to understand that I'm getting addicted or maybe have already gotten addicted to alcohol.

While I do want to stop myself there is something in me that takes me back to it every time I fall in trouble, feel sad, low, or don't know how to cope.

I started drinking last year for the very first time in 26 yrs and I feel I'm trapped. Last drink I had was yesterday night and something in me changed. I want to come out of it because it stops me from feeling and being me.

So, I'll be journaling here to ensure that all of you are a witness to my successful de-addiction and so that I know I'm not alone.

Signing off on day-1

You are not definitely alone. I remember I watched one movie especially about alcohol addiction, with Nicolas Cage... "Leaving Las Vegas". It moved me deeply and hit hard home. I struggled with many addictions, really badly. it is ***. Living ***.

You can do this! It is a fight, and you may fall a lot of times... but it isnt a race where u need to be first to win... it is a race where it is just about running... you just keep going... fast or slow... stumble or not... doesnt matter... what matters is running the race and not giving up. That is how you win.

God bless you

I'll definitely watch that movie. Ik addiction does not always take time to seep in, so even if it's just been a year, it can be bad. Because it's not about time. It's frequency. Right?

And yes, that you for the motivation and the tip on how you can win ❤️❤️

I remember I watched some movies about recovery and overcoming addiction - that is not the film I recommended, that film is just showing the reality and the darkness of addiction and how it destroys you and your life. One is called Beautiful Boy (2018) about overcoming addiction, and the other is called Home Run (2013) which is a Christian movie but not so much in your face, preaching or whatever. You may find it value too.

And yeah, I think that fight with addiction is simply as a little baby, little child learning to walk. At the beginning as he tries he is constantly falling, but he is learning and he grows and with time he is just able to walk, you know? But it is about getting up. I watched Batman trilogy now, and this quote stuck with me: "Why do we fall sir? .... So that we can learn to pick ourselves up."  So, in future you can and will be totally free from it ... but you will go through temptations... you can still fall and get back to it... but you dont have to, it is your choice. I found that with me... it was my decision, I had control over it, free will... but as I repeatedly was giving myself to those addictions and things... I became a slave to it, and lost my power, couldnt control it anymore. Right?

Do not be discouraged, but encourage yourself and rejoice... because you were in a place where u didnt want to stop and you really liked it... now it is changed... come on, that is a big deal, rejoice and dont be harsh on yourself.

I wish you all the best.

I found this inspiration, these testimonies you can watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcUf9jrgjek
