I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, my power made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest upon me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, I am strong.

This is such a great verse......Grace is everything.......though also when you prayed to change all your life and are still confronted with the same lists, the same sins, the same failures, it can get more than a little depressing. Honestly, I wanted and hoped to be more holy by now.......

But you need to face, at 63, that you are not. That is, in your flesh you are not. In the Spirit you are holy, you are sanctified, you are seen as perfect by the sacrifice made. That is why it is called substitutionary atonement after all. Substitutionary at one ment. At one with God, at one with self, at one with neighbour. No one lives in the Spirit the whole time.
Lord Jesus help me to remember what you have done through the cross. Though it seems ridiculous in face of my sins and vices, it is what I need more than anything, to see myself as free, free indeed, not only in theory. Against the facts, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
When I cannot see myself as ever being any different, when I begin to think, well Christianity hasn't worked for me, remember that's a lie generated by the world, the flesh and the devil. The world: you hypocrite, the flesh, I cannot change, the devil, you aren't even one of the elect. Christ: I died for everybody, there isn't a list of some who are in and some who are not chosen........
