Verbal abuse
How to come out of the habit of verbally abusing and having violent verbal outbursts
@decisiveBlackberry6015 I’m trying to stop doing that. It’s not good for me.
@decisiveBlackberry6015 I am sorry you are having difficulty managing your emotions. A big part of that for me is trying to stay aware that the other person is not a real threat to me even if I imagine them to be one. I say to myself stop and look at this when I see angry thoughts arise. I may excuse myself and take a bathroom break or go to my room. I do anything I can to put space between those thoughts and taking action. I call a time out.
I start to examine the thoughts that arise and ask what is making them so forceful. What is the cause of this. I do not always get answers but just by examining my thoughts, it creates space and starts my mind inquiring instead of reacting. I do not always succeed, but if I improve a little bit and get less angry or catch myself before I get out of control, that is a victory.
