Anger..
Typically, I'm a really sweet person—I don't like conflict; it makes me shut down. However, recently I was in a situation where my drunk aunt grabbed my grandmother. When I tried to get her to stop, she ended up punching me in the face. She also put her hands on my younger sister.
The police came, and my grandmother lied to them to protect my aunt, who already has other assault charges and is out on bond. The police only listened to my grandmother and told me it was my fault for being at her house and "aggravating" my aunt.
It was "just a punch in the face"—not the end of the world—but I'm so angry. I don’t know what to do with the anger I’m feeling. I’m not someone who is typically angry. I also started taking sertraline about a month ago, and I’m not sure if that’s making things worse, or if it’s just the situation itself.
I don’t want to leave my room. I’m so worried I’ll lash out at someone who doesn’t deserve it, so I’d rather stay in my room and take it out on myself.

@Lindsey103 it’s okay to be angry in that situation. they weren’t treating you right
@Lindsey103
The way you feel is absolutely valid. The anger you feel isn’t a bad thing. This isn’t hateful anger. This is anger begging for peace and justice. What you’ve been through is something most of us would also feel mad and overwhelmed about. You wanted to protect your grandma and your younger sister…and in the end, you ended up "being the worst". That’s not fair. You’re a good person who cares about her family.
There are no good and bad emotions. And your anger isn’t bad. Your anger is calling for justice and peace. You know what? Don’t try to suppress that anger. Because if you suppress it and pretend it’s not there, it’s only going to grow more and more, and will do more harm than good.
Feeling anger is natural and okay. Try to accept your feelings. The anger is there, and it’s there for a valid reason. Listen to your heart. What does it say? What does it want? Validate its needs. Validate your anger. Validate your thoughts. Acknowledge and respect them. There’s no need to behave as they say or to listen to them. Just admit that all these feelings exist.
If you feel like staying in your room is the best for you right now, do that. Don’t rush things. Try to take a paper and a pen. Write it all down, draw it, tear the paper up, burn it… anything you need.
Feeling anger is scary, but natural. The key is not to let the anger overcome you and control you❤️🌷

Thank you so much for replying to me!! Anger can be such a strong emotion to manage. I definitely cried alot not knowing how to manage my emotions but this has gotten a bit better I'm still a bit angry but it's definitely more manageable now❤️
@Lindsey103

Hey! Is anything wrong? 😥
The anger in this is completely justified. They were not good adults; in fact one lied to the police. Chances are they are dysfunctional. They even punched you.
I’m glad you wrote here and sought support.

Thank you so much for validating my feelings on this situation ❤️ the anger I had was hard to manage but has gotten a bit better.
It’s honestly totally ok to be angry and upset in this! I’m hoping you have supportive friends and adults elsewhere.
It's a really hard situation for someone who is in this situation.
@Lindsey103 go let that angry out. You didn’t deserve that, neither did your younger sister and grandma. Just because you’re usually a sweet person doesn’t mean you’re not human and become angry from things you never should have experienced. Don’t let your sweetness hold you back.
