Character vs reputation

Your character is something that you have control of based on your actions, but your reputation is something that others have decided about you. Not everyone is going to like you and that is ok. As long as you are happy with you, and show good character no matter what others do, it can bring a sense of peace and satisfaction in the person you have become.

@KellyBrastMA

Good character outweighs outlasts reputation.

Let's say you work for a small company. You leave under a cloud; you had to be a whistleblower. After you leave the people who you exposed trash talk you to everyone.

It hurts. And good deeds and good character will out, and in time the smear campaign will come to naught as well as the detractors.

It is way more important to do the right thing than the popular thing.

The key to this statement is when you say "As long as you are happy with you". This is a sticking point for a lot of us. So many of us want to please others. It is hard to like yourself so we change who we are, or who we want to be, so that others may like us. Personally, I needed to read your post today as a reminder. Thank you for sharing.

@KellyBrastMA I agree with you. When I act ethically no matter what others say "everyone is doing" then I feel better about myself."
