Losing Interest?

I’ve been very confused with myself lately. This has been ongoing for probably 2 weeks already and it was over the weekend that I realized something shift inside me. For reasons inexplicable, I just don’t feel excited or motivated to socialize or hang out with anyone even close friends regularly nowadays. When I interact with people on campus, I am able to mask my inner feelings with congeniality or jokes and can be very talkative with others; however, whenever I am left on my own, I just feel like I could go on for eternity just not socializing— I desire to isolate myself. To be alone. The idea of fostering new and already existing connections has become something dreadful to me. It’s as if I have become socially lazy

I also have a boyfriend of 1 year who I hang out with on a regular basis, and I can’t help but feel that I am starting to be exhausted and unenthusiastic seeing him. It’s a feeling that has been bugging me since Friday. Earlier I had dinner with him, and I felt nothing with him. It’s been this way for three days already. There was this thought that emerged that I simply would be indifferent if I didn’t speak to him for weeks or months. It’s heartbreaking because I never anticipated I’d feel nothing towards him along with the people close to me. People say the honeymoon phase dies eventually as it’s a normal thing that happens when you are committing to someone, and see them regularly. I just think my depression is manifesting again. This semester has been very heavy for me academically, and I also lost interest in my hobbies. I’m so fixated on studying to boost my GPA to that extent that when I’m not doing anything related to academics, I either sleep for long hours or just endlessly scroll on my phone numbingly. Disappointing

@throwaway907 I am sorry you are losing interest in socializing. That sounds like you have a very clear goal of wanting to study more. Are you happy with the subjects you are studying or are those drudging things you "have" to do?

I am a peer supporter  so I am not trained and cannot tell you anything precise about your condition. There are some things you mentioned like feeling flat, isolating yourself, losing interest in activities you used to enjoy, not excited by your boyfriend, sleeping a lot. Those are symptoms of different mental health challenges. Have you considered getting counselling at your school or privately? There may be something more than a simple loss of interest.

I avoid intoxicants because even though they give temporary relief they produce long term depression in me, so I avoid them like the plague. A high carb diet with lots of sweetened soda, sugar, starches and carbs also has a similar effect to intoxicants in me so I eat a high protein low carb diet and my moods are better.

Hope you get the support you are looking for.
