Is trust proven or created?
I am having some issue understanding trust in a relationship. Should you give trust and hope for it not to break you or should you wait for your partner to trust you?
@GoddessCP I think the way people give trust is unique to the individual. There is no right or wrong way. Personally, I observe the other person's actions to identify whether they are trustworthy. A big part of this is that "gut feeling" you get, but I'll try to identify the traits that would set off alarm bells for me:
- They sound like a hallmark card. If they seem too good to be true, they probably are.
- They make snide remarks, or make me feel uncomfortable or low
- They do not keep promises/they are consistently late
- Inappropriate gifts (big ticket items too early into the relationship)
If the person avoids these red flags, I give them my trust until they break it. But I have never been cheated on or swindled, so I understand that many people may set a higher bar than I do. I just find it is too tiring to worry so much about whether or not I can trust them - I'd be a paranoid wreck.
Interested to see how others approach the issue of trust!

Well said my friend! I for one, enjoy your approach! *high fives* 😊
@GoddessCP If you're smart about it, trust is not "created"...it is earned.

Well said my friend! I enjoy your approach to things as well! *high fives* 😊
@GoddessCP Trust is an interesting subject.
To have trust in a relationship, one must trust and have understanding of each other.
If only one person trust and the other does not, then that could be a hug problem.
Trust is a two way street, in my opinion.
I hope this helps.
@GoddessCP
Hi Goddess! 😊❤️ Trust certainly is an interesting construct and everyone approaches it differently as a person. Ones nature and thoughts in regard to trust could be dependent upon past interactions with others, the current interaction someone is having with someone that is person specific, or a myriad of other factors. I don't think trust is an easy topic. I agree, this would be difficult to find an answer to, polish up, pack up and put a great big bow on and have one simple answer to it.
Here are some cliches' but they become cliches' for a reason:
Trust is not given it is earned.
Trust comes in drops and is lost in buckets.
Thank you for your thoughtful post! *high fives* 😊
