A form of healing, holistic therapy aims to achieve optimal health and wellness by aligning all parts of a person, including their body, mind, spirit, and emotions. It’s based on the belief that if one of these aspects is off, it will affect all the other parts.

Many healthcare professionals are using holistic therapies in conjunction with traditional forms of treatment to help patients, especially those living with chronic pain.

To understand why holistic therapy is so effective, we must first understand fully what it is and how it can help us. The word holistic is literally defined as the belief that parts of something are intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole. Wholistic. Let that word sit with you for a minute. Holistic healers take into account the whole picture of a person, not just the symptoms presented by a physical complication.

Trauma affects us psychologically, physically, emotionally, behaviorally, cognitively, relationally, and spiritually...Trauma is not a mindset, but rather a physical, emotional, and spiritual illness.

Recovery from trauma does not necessarily result in being “free” of the traumatic events that affect you, but the opportunity to live in the present without feeling flooded with thoughts and feelings from the past. Holistic means encompassing the whole of a thing, and not just the part. Holistic medicine looks at the whole person for answers, not just at physical symptoms. Holistic medicine tries to treat someone as mind and body, instead of treating only the part of the patient that is most sick.

In terms of providing health care, the use of the term “holistic" dates back to the time of Hippocrates, over 2,500 years ago. Believing it was insufficient to focus on one aspect of a person, Hippocrates emphasized the importance of establishing equilibrium within individuals, viewing the person as a whole being made up of many parts working in concert with one another.

Holistic psychotherapy, an integrative approach grounded in psychosynthesis, focuses on the relationship between mind, body, and spirit, attempting to understand and address the ways issues in one aspect of a person can lead to concerns in other areas.

It was not until the 1970s that people in medical and other healthcare fields began to feel treating only one or a few symptoms generally only served to manage certain issues and did not always succeed in helping people improve their overall quality of life. The first national conference on holistic health, held in 1975, began a movement for alternative forms of care both in the field of medicine and among therapists.

. In the 20th century, health care became more medically focused as the care of certain symptoms was reduced to one form of intervention. Issues with the mind were typically treated with talk therapy and symptoms in the body were addressed with drugs and surgeries. The mind and body were consistently viewed as separate entities.

Deeper understanding of the whole self can often lend itself to greater self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-acceptance.

These are the simple fundamentals of holistic medicine:

Approaching the individual as a whole person, not just the disease.

The belief that all people possess the ability to heal themselves.

Treatment involves fixing the root cause of the condition, not just alleviating symptoms.

The healing process addresses all aspects of a person’s life, in an attempt to bring balance, by use of a variety of treatments.

Question: What do you think of the concept of treating the body as a whole?

As always these questions are optional, feel free to say hi or drop off or pick up a hug or 2.

Hang tough stay pawsome we'll get through this together ur friend and forum supporter 🔥

@Fireskye13 What a wonderful post! So much is intertwined, body, mind and spirit and they each can affect each other. So many times, doctors, both physical and psychological just treat the symptoms but fail to see the broader picture.

There is wisdom in trees, the need for community reminded me of the Mangrove and Tupelo tree's that intertwine their roots and how their unity allows them to stand strong against even the harshest of storms, even hurricanes. It reminds me that there is strength and security in community.

I wish a good day for you and everyone else.

The concept of holistic therapy resonate a lot.

I've had experiences with doctors who focus solely on the symptoms and it's very frustrating that they push for certain options that doesn't address the root causes. I wish more people, especially doctors, understood mental health better, alas.

I used to view the mind and body as separate and valued the mind over the body. I'm learning to value my body more and pay attention to the signals its telling me. I'm still learning about how it all works together but I find calming the body can help calm the mind (eg through yoga as an example).

I prefer IBM, samsung, android . . . (ice breaker)

I read the article on the trees. . . I learned that they need community. (communication and community are similar words.)
