Born from the ancient practice of yoga and informed by modern knowledge. The aim of yoga therapy is to educate, empower, and enable people to take an active role in their own healing.

A Yoga Therapist uses frameworks from the Yoga and Ayurveda traditions combined with western medicine research and perspective to help people improve their physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

There's growing evidence that modified yoga, when taught by specially trained individuals and employed in a therapeutic context, can be a tool of healing and empowerment for people who have experienced trauma.

The term trauma-sensitive yoga was coined by David Emerson, E-RYT, founder and director of yoga services at the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute in Brookline, MA, to describe the use of yoga as an adjunctive treatment within a clinical context. The practice, pioneered by experts such as Bessel van der Kolk, MD, and championed by others such as Richard Miller, PhD, CEO of the Integrative Restoration Institute and cofounder of the International Association of Yoga Therapy, aims to help people regain comfort in their bodies, counteract rumination, and improve self-regulation. Initial study results revealed that participation in trauma-informed gentle yoga leads to a significant reduction in symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Evidence suggests that people respond best to body-based therapies, coupled with psychotherapy, because traditional “talk” therapy alone can dredge up old memories and reignite the pain all over again. And, while the mind may spend countless hours reliving the event and retelling the tale, it cannot undo the effects of what happened—the terror, rage, helplessness, and depression that then manifest in the body. Most experts agree that trauma's effects live in the body—and that's why yoga works.

Question 1: Have you ever tried yoga?

Question 2: How do you feel about the idea that exercise can help mental health?

As always these questions are optional, feel free to say hi or drop off a hug or 2.

Hang tough stay pawsome ur friend and forum supporter 🔥

I've never tried it.

Question 2: How do you feel about the idea that exercise can help mental health?

It does help. I don't practice yoga but I go skating every day and it is relaxing and pretty helpful.

Rollerblades. And I need new wheels because my wheels are worn and I'm losing traction on curves.
