How powerful the quote and the poster ! I didn't know of the Blue Knot Foundation.
Their motto in the poster is powerful: "Empowering - Recovering - Resilience"
I googled them.
They do a hugely important job supporting trauma survivors. They produce excellent training and support material.
Blue Knot Day is their day of promoting awareness on the most important issues about Trauma.

All my recognition to them!

What is your favorite element, earth, air, fire, or water?
How difficult ! I love them all ! Forced to choose, it's Water: I drink liters of water a day, I love to play with the waves in the sea, to kayak and fall to the water, love to swim, love the rain, don’t mind walking under heavy rain (well protected), Water is the cradle of Life, we humans are 60% water, search for Life in the Universe is the search for a planet with Water…

How are you holding up today?
I am very tired, but quite happy.

Looking back over the past week what have you done that was energizing? What strengths were you using?
Writing for this Community is extremely energizing to me. My strengths for writing are Focus and Persistence.

Awww, thanks for such a kind answer.

The poster was “The” best for your great and super-succesful check-in.

Those Blue Knot people are amazing.

I think I read in another of your posts that you have a river nearby. Maybe you can play with water there.

We are made of so much water because life was made in water, and we inherited that. For billions of years only the seas had life. When animals came to dry earth, the trick was to carry the “sea” within them, in like a bag of water. We are made of trillions of cells, each one needs water for its chemical functioning. And as they don’t feed directly, like bacteria in soil or water, we need a system of liquid circulation that carries the food we eat and digest, to all of them. So water, water and more water, everywhere inside us.

Writing is great to me. It lets communicate among us in this community. /“Thank you Writing!”

Keep in touch, Skye

You are awesome !

Marcelo.

First an icebreaker, what is your favorite element, earth, air, fite or water?

I think earth because all the greenery in it looks really beautiful

Question 1. How are you holding up today?

I had some flashbacks of memories in which I was abused. Some internal consoling was done to cope. I feel numb now but I know all those emotions are going to hit me later

Question 2. Looking back over the past week what have you done that was energizing? What strengths were you using?

Since the past couple of weeks I've been trying to get into a schedule and organize things. I think I was using strengths to not feel too overwhelmed and slowly organize myself

I strongly agree that the greenery sustained by the earth is one of the most beautiful things that exist. Earth is a great provider of marvelous things and as such a wonderful Element

I am sorry you had those horrible flashbacks. It’s great that you have developed effective coping strategies. I wish you that those bad emotions don’t come. And if they do, that you apply your effective coping skills to deal with them.

You are wise to focus on organizing things in your life. Organizing external things or mundane routines help us organize and strengthen our internal life too, and feel more in control of our life.

My fav element is water. I love water so much and get so energized and refreshed by trips to the ocean or to big lakes.

I am doing much better today than I have been in the past couple weeks. I feel calm but not manic. I think I showed a lot of strength in letting myself take time off to rest and sleep as much as I needed and let my body totally collapse and just rest.

Idk - lol - negativity and influence - Depression and anxiety. Most times I'm lucky enough to have both at once lol. And deflecting everything with the use of snark. Sorry about that :)

Deep thought. Fire kills old things and lets new things to grow.

Your sense of humor is great.

I am also very sarcastic,

As a Listener I have to control myself at 7 Cups, because the first answers that come to mind are very inappropriate...

Humor and sarcasm help take some perspective, we see ourselves as the object of something (darkly) funny, We take some distance and even can laugh about our bad feelings.

That's wise and healthy.

I love the outdoors too. So healing... Open sky, open mind !

Thank you for your great, honest contribution !

@WelcomeToChat Thank you - I guess most times - it has to be a time and place for it.

LOL - as a member - I have to behave because - rules :)

Alot of times I use humor because I have a really hard time sharing things lately and some of the things we deal with are so serious - if we don't laugh - Idk - then it's just super serious

I like that - open sky open mind - allthough sometimes it seems that if my mind is opened any more brain would fall out

Thank you for your reply - Take care :)

I sometimes use emoticons, like a smiling face, after a joking phrase. But only with people that know me.

If you can laugh a little about your serious stuff, you have reached a high level in the game.

Thanks so much I appreciate it ima incredibly happy how it came out.

Fire!!!!! Finally a fellow fire 🔥🔥. Yes fire brings renewal, and its quite fascinating there's something about watching fire (we have a fireplace) that is soooooo mesmerizing, not to mention it looks pretty lol.

Depression and anxiety, that sucks, no worries I use humor alot to deflect.

@Fireskye13 I know right? I was thinking maybe I was the odd one with everyone else picking water and earth

It is mesmerizing - you can sort of lose yourself in the flames. There's logs you can get that make the flames different colors - those are really cool to watch

Just getting it ready to keep some tree's and strawberry plants in over winter. The tree's should have been planted but they looked nice where they were on the steps up to the fire put thats here lol - next spring they'll be planted - hopefully :)

Stay awesome Skye - take care

Question 1. How are you holding up today?

I'm alright. The last few nights I've been waking up sweaty and with teeth clenched and dreaming about things I'd rather not. I mean it's almost like I hadn't already been spending my freetime thinking about things, now we gotta add it into the dreams, huh brain? I'm feeling better after finally crying last night. Got a much more solid night of sleep, still not the best but much better and I'm grateful for it.

Question 2. Looking back over the past week what have you done that was energizing? What strengths were you using?

Hm.. well this week I haven't done much that energized me but the week(s) before I was going hard on an animation I was making for homework. The strength there was creativity, maybe willpower, and wanting to create something lighthearted my classmates would enjoy. Mission accomplished :D Now I'm kinda winding down from that. I wish I had more energy this week, but for now I'm ok with the 'calm' energy that I have today.

Thanks for the check in! Have a great week

@Fireskye13

I wanted to be the first one to answer this post yesterday, but I fell asleep. I had to search forever to find it

First an icebreaker, what is your favorite element, earth, air, fite or water?

I like all of the elements. I've also heard somewhere that some people consider light and darkness as elements too, which makes it even more interesting. But, form all of those, my favourite is fire because it is so mystic, powerful and ethereal. It provides light and heat and safety.

Question 1. How are you holding up today?

I'm ok today and in a very good mood. I feel happy. Helping other people is always nice but it can be overwhelming. Stepping aside from people's problems and focusing in my own well being was a good choice and I'm feeling way much better, ut I feel selfish and it makes me wonder if I'm being a good person or not. Anyway, I have more time now and I'm working on all my overdue assignments.

Question 2. Looking back over the past week what have you done that was energizing? What strengths were you using?

I discovered an activity that I'm enjoying a lot and it's helping me physically and mentally. It is skating. I feel so good and energized after I go out and skate for an hour. It even helped me to cope after being triggered, and it boosts my mood. I feel motivated and more focused on my assignments.

I want to leave you a hug, Skye. I loved your post and I feel so proud of you. Thank you very much, it was helpful and lovely. 💜💜💜💜

I love your poetic depiction of Fire. It's greatly inspiring.

Light and darkness is a great theme, and so present in our lives !

Being good starts with being good with the closest person, ourselves.

You are not selfish by taking self-care. As they say in the airplanes, "In case of decompression, to help others, put your mask first".

Skating is great, it gives you that feeling of speed and power !

Your writing style is a delight to read.

The airplane example was very illustrative and it convinced me that my choice was right. However, I can't help feeling a little guilty and thinking that I'm failing my friends.

What you said about my writing style means a lot to me, especially because english is not my first language. I do my best to sound correctly and consistently. 💚

@Kimmkimm

Feeling a little guilty is not that bad. It's a symptom of Compassion.

Very compassionate people, like you, have always this problem, confronting all the needs you see in the world, what you have done seems like it’s not enough.

But we have to come to terms with the fact that we are limited, we can’t do it all.

I am new here. I’m starting to know this Community.

But it’s already clear to me that your presence, participation, and even just “being here”, brings a lot of light and love to this Community.

It’s clear that you have old friends here, and you are doing a lot of good to them now.

I was surprised that English is not your first language. It’s not mine either, but I read poetry in English. And your writing is very expressive, poetic, and evocative.

Someday I would love to read some of your poetry and prose. Maybe by a thread in the “Creativity” section ? (posts can be as many and as long as one wishes).

(I understand Spanish and Portuguese, some French and Italian, and a liiiitle of German.)

I thank you very much for your kind answer, and hope to continue reading your posts many times in the future.

I'm amazed how you seem to know so many things about me but I'm glad you have a nice impression about me.

I don't write poetry too much. I rather write stories in Iambic Tetrameter or Pentameter. I'm also writing a novel but none of these are in english. But I'd love to learn middle english because it has such a meliflous and nostalgic tone, like a language spoken by heavenly creatures.

Oh, my “knowledge” is more like that of an anthropologist decoding what’s going on. I just pay attention.

I couldn’t write in such precise metrics. Plain prose is difficult enough for me !

I love the Middle Ages, had some contact with original texts (like watching Egyptian hieroglyphs), but can only guess a few disconnected words in Middle English.

I suppose it must be VERY difficult to learn it.

You have a very sophisticated knowledge of language. Like a philologist or a linguist. Do you study something like that ?

Your erudition is more than admirable, it's intimidating !

In which language do you write ? German perhaps ?

"Her desires were immeasurable and her hopes were endless. Joy had nested in her heart and a faint glow emanated from her spirit. The day when she would turn 13 had finally arrived.

But fate, always whimsical and ruthless, had sentenced her candid and hopeful prayers. And she saw it in her mother's pale face, in the brittle tone of her voice, in the warm and bitter tears shed on the floor: the admirable man she once called father would never walk by her side again. Dark clouds of uncertainty descended over her fate and anguish seized her tender heart." (taken from my autobiography in progress - Kimberly J. V.)

I found my father's books on his desk. And, among them, a dusty jewel awaiting to be found. I won't say the book's title because it is personal, but it comes in Iambic Tetrameter. I don't know how many times I've read it, but it's rhythm and meter is engraved in my mind and I can't escape it's cadence now. My entire knowledge comes from my father.

I must confess that I used a traslator because my english is not enough to perform such a feat. My first language is spanish and, of course, the rhythm is lost in the whim of languages.

"I will not drink thy vintage wine, my dear;
Thou hast heed'd that I am of innocence, yet thou let'st thy lass into peril -
Thou let'st me be parched;
My heart is of frailty, my pale skin is hued damask.
When thou thy tears hast hidden, "Come back!", thou sayest -
There I soon am to be - but how am I to run when my bones, my heart!
Thou hast me bereaft?" (A Distance There Is - Theatre of Tragedy).

The quote above is written in middle english and I find it so beautiful and hevenly. I hope I can write like that some day.

Thank you so much for those words. It encourages me to keep writing. I stopped writing three months ago, when my life was broken, and I don't know if I'll be able to do it again. I don't think I will get my book finished ever. But, if I do, I will give you the first edition.

Thank you, once again, for the beautiful Canterbury Tales. I have heard of them but I never got a glimpse of its magnifiscence until now. It is beyond beautiful, it is ineffable.

Have you read The Divine Comedy? My book is inspired on that. 💕

Gracias por tus palabras. Me impactaron.

Sos maravillosa ¡

Marcelo.

Marcelo, I need you in the teen zone 😢. There are so many things I'd like to tell you but a forum is not the place for that. I wish there was a way to send private messages between teens and adults. 💔

I only shared that little piece because you asked about my knowledge and I wanted to let you know where I got it from. And thank you for those encouraging words. However, I think I should give up writing because I don't have any motivation to keep doing it and now there are only horrors in my head, memories that haunt me in flashbacks and nightmares and fears. No more fairy tales for me. And what you say about getting the habit to do it... Well, it is impossible for me now because I feel I've lost control of my life. I'm not even able to go to class and I'm behind in my school. Time flies without noticing, sleeping is out of control with meds and dissociations make it even harder. And I feel frustrated to see how an hour has passed and I have no memory of it. I'm sorry to disappoint you but it is better for you to not get high expectations on me. I'm not that wonderful person you speak about.

I asked a mod and he said we should not talk in other languages in the forum. We should stick to english only.

Hello, Thanks for the post. I read the questions and then thought that today after a rough day at therapy I would just refrain from answering. Only because I have another issue I am trying to work through

I have been married for 48 years to someone I never loved. It was pretty much like a prearranged marriage. We were not allowed to date or get to really know one another. I was picked and the organization that did this did not believe in divorce.

Although I said to them I did not love this man, I was told that I would grow to love him, which has not happened as of yet.

We rarely talk to one another but we live in the same house. .He stays in his room and only comes out for necessities. I have no family here in this state which makes me feel so alone. I really can't afford to leave and I feel so trapped. but I accept the reality but I don't like it.

Wondering where I go from here, trying to find my Wise Mind which seems very quite on this issue.

Hiya pear, ima sorry to hear that, I can't imagine living with someone you don't love. That sounds like a horrible thing. I hope you can find ur way through it, I wish I had words of wisdom to help, but unfortunately idk how to help. Other than to say that if u ever need or want to talk ima here for you.

@Fireskye13

What is your favorite element, earth, air, fire or water?

Water-It is calming, peaceful, but it is also very dangerous.

Question 1. How are you holding up today?

Woke up anxious as usual but was able to find some calmness throughout the day, which was very nice to sit for a bit this evening without getting up every few minutes, or fidget, or have sweaty palms.

Question 2. Looking back over the past week what have you done that was energizing? What strengths were you using?

Working out, helps soooo much with the anxiety; the flight need of me feels it gets met (most of the time) after working out. I also spoke with work about taking time off to help get my anxiety at least contained more. Strengths…ummm…I guess I met the needs of my body in a healthy way and I stated what my needs are and what I need. (Not sure if I answered the right)

Greetings chaos, great to see you, thx for checking in.

Another water, water seems to be in the lead so far. Water is peaceful and dangerous, ying yang comes to mind.

It sucks waking up anxious ima happy to hear you were able to find a calm state of mind, keep up the good work. It's nice to be able to jus sit n relax.

Working out that's pawsome. That's great it helps. Speaking up about ur needs is great ima proud of you! I hope you get the time you need. As far as strengths go working ur psychial strength can be just as important as our mental ones, ur answer was pawsome.
