Trauma Support Check in Wednesday November 24.
Hiya peeps, welcome to the Wednesday check in, thanks for stopping in.
Today's check in topic is dealing with trauma through humor.
Sometimes humor is the best coping mechanism, especially when in life’s worst moments.
Humor has long been recognized as more than mere fun and games. It presents an alternative means of expressing criticism about injustices, arrogance, pretentions or hypocrisies that can’t socially be expressed otherwise. People who have suffered trauma often find themselves looking to humor to help deal with both the physical and mental challenges they face.
According to all the data the good folks at The Mayo Clinic gathered, here are some of the top benefits of laughter:
Short-term benefits
A good laugh has great short-term effects. When you start to laugh, it doesn’t just lighten your load mentally, it actually induces physical changes in your body. Laughter can:
Stimulate many organs. Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.
Activate and relieve your stress response. A rollicking laugh fires up and then cools down your stress response, and it can increase your heart rate and blood pressure. The result? A good, relaxed feeling.
Soothe tension. Laughter can also stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation, both of which can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.
Laughter isn’t just a quick pick-me-up, though. It’s also good for you over the long
term. Laughter may:
Improve your immune system. Negative thoughts manifest into chemical reactions that can affect your body by bringing more stress into your system and decreasing your immunity. In contrast, positive thoughts can release neuropeptides that help fight stress and potentially more-serious illnesses.
Relieve pain. Laughter may ease pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers.
Increase personal satisfaction. Laughter can also make it easier to cope with difficult situations. It also helps you connect with other people.
Improve your mood. Many people experience depression, sometimes due to chronic illnesses. Laughter can help lessen your depression and anxiety and may make you feel happier.
There’s even an annual conference, Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor Conference, running for more than 30 years.( I'll place the link below) Additionally, some insurance companies are beginning to cover laughter clubs and humor therapy.

One of the things that my mother taught me is that in any situation you can choose to laugh or cry, and if at all possible choose laughter. She was the main victim of my narcissistic father, but she could always find a laugh, could always make others laugh, even when going through some seriously horrific times. I cherish the memories I have of the times she and I were able to laugh together.
@ShadesOfGrace
Hiya Grace, thx for checking in its pawsome to hear from you.
Ima glad you have those memories, and that ur mother was able to laugh still while going through that. She sounds like a very strong person.

@ShadesOfGrace if I'm being honest I'm pretty angry right now. The person who caused my trauma hasn't heard back like it never even happened. And I'm the irrational one.having a hard day mentally and ended up taking a self-care day today only for him to come and ruin it right before I got to bed. So I'm out taking a walk right now trying to cool off. Have a really dry sense of humor humor I can laugh at other people's jokes sometimes but so many of them now are I feel like stereotypical or like mean towards some kind of person with or ignorant towards it. Clean jokes are fine even the puns are kind of funny.
Here's one :
Why is six afraid of seven?
Because seven ate nine
@LightofWorld
Hiya light, thx for checking in today.
Ima sorry to hear that your having a rough time I feel your frustration. Having the person who caused you trauma in your life is horrible, having ur self care day ruined as well that's downright painful ima sorry that happened to you.
Talking a walk is a great idea I love going for walks along the river, pawsome way to relax. I hope you can get to a better place soon.
Clean jokes are pawsome, some jokes can be rude to people.

@Fireskye13, Hello there! So, the saying, "Laughter is the best medicine," is legit after all.
Question 1: How gos today?
It's great. A webtoon left me with a cliffhanger. Again.
Question 2: Have you or do you ever use humor to get through a tough situation?
