Burnout
we talk about self-care all the time but not much about burnout so here it is.
What Is Burnout?
The term burnout is a relatively new term, first coined in 1974 by Herbert Freudenberger, in his book, Burnout: The High Cost of High Achievement. He originally defined burnout as, the extinction of motivation or incentive, especially where one's devotion to a cause or relationship fails to produce the desired results.
More simply put, if you feel exhausted, start to hate your job, and begin to feel less capable at work, you are showing signs of burnout.
it doesnt just have to be job related that causes burnout
While burnout isnt a diagnosable psychological disorder, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be taken seriously.
Here are some of the most common signs of burnout:
Alienation from work-related activities: Individuals experiencing burnout view their jobs as increasingly stressful and frustrating. They may grow cynical about their working conditions and the people they work with. They may also emotionally distance themselves and begin to feel numb about their work.
Physical symptoms: Chronic stress may lead to physical symptoms, like headaches and stomachaches or intestinal issues.
Emotional exhaustion: Burnout causes people to feel drained, unable to cope, and tired. They often lack the energy to get their work done.
Reduced performance: Burnout mainly affects everyday tasks at work—or in the home when someone's main job involves caring for family members. Individuals with burnout feel negative about tasks. They have difficulty concentrating and often lack creativity.
It shares some similar symptoms of mental health conditions, such as depression. Individuals with depression experience negative feelings and thoughts about all aspects of life, not just at work. Depression symptoms may also include a loss of interest in things, feelings of hopelessness, cognitive and physical symptoms as well as thoughts of suicide.

1. how are you all feeling today the good the bad any inbetween?
I am feeling nice and calm-- which is unusual for me! I'm usually high or low; hardly in the middle. I recently made a refill purchase using a black-owned business, and my shipment arrived today! Normally, about twice a year, I go to Bath & Body works to stock on body sprays, lotions, etc. as a treat for myself. This time I shopped at Alaffia and I LOVE everything I got!
2. have you ever experienced burnout and how did you overcome it?
I still struggle with burnout. I find that making a (seemingly arbitrary) change of scenery does a lot to help out, because it refreshes your perspective on the problem, and reminds you that you have control over your life. My last job was incredibly stressful because of 1 co-worker, and when I was feeling particularly unhappy at one point, I rearranged my cubicle. It reminded me that I could rearrange my situation, so I did. I made a game plan of how to deal with these unforseen interpersonal work stressors & I tackled it!
3. why is it important to avoid burnout?
Mental health is just as important as any health to keep tabs on!
4. what tips would you share to others to avoid burnout ?

Neutral. I am just me. It feels good, and that makes me happy.
2. have you ever experienced burnout and how did you overcome it?
It just goes away after a blacked out spot in my memory around the same time.

Burning myself out could be a sign of avoidant behavior.
4. what tips would you share to others to avoid burnout ?
Everything I could say would have something to do with Taoism, Bhuddhism, or DBT therapy. Things like:
1. Do one thing at a time
2. Do it slowly and deliberately
3. Do it completely
4. Do less
5. Put space between things
6. Develop rituals
7. Designate time for certain things
8. Devote time to sitting
9. Smile and serve others
10. Make cleaning and cooking become meditation
11. Think about what is necessary
12. Live simply

1.how are you all feeling today the good the bad any inbetween?
exhausted, trapped, hopeful, determined, scared, grateful and really really wanting to cut it's been 6 days. This is so long for me! But I'm trying to sit and feel rather than re-act
2. have you ever experienced burnout and how did you overcome it?
yes. Just keep pushing through? Idk
3. why is it important to avoid burnout?
idk. I feel like you covered it well
4. what tips would you share to others to avoid burnout ?
find joy in the mundane. Find a way to mix up your routine. Find things to look forward to. Trying to find a way to make the not fun stuff into a game . Set timers and see how much you can do in the allocated time. Can you do repetitive tasks in a new way? Can you multi-task, ie listen to music or a podcast as you do stuff? Play sleuth: what can you find out about those around you. Maybe the guy drumming his pencil is anxious and needs a friend. Maybe the girl next door has a button on her bag from a band you both like.
Hej there !
1.how are you all feeling today the good the bad any inbetween?
Had some hard times today cause we experience pain and some stupid neurological symptom stuff . Now we are with painkillers so its better know . Found out that our workshift tomorrow will be with nice workmates so we head up to bed in a good mood .
2. have you ever experienced burnout and how did you overcome it?
unfortuntaly we know burnout and can to that point more then one time . If we end up in a burnout situation we spend some days just sleeping to make at least our body get some more energy . Then we try to do things that doesn't cost much energy but give us some energypoi ts like talking to friends or listen to good music /read a book or some pages of it.
3. why is it important to avoid burnout?
Its just not good for you to empty your battery totally.
4. what tips would you share to others to avoid burnout ?
I'm not sure if I'm the right person to share tips for that.
I would say it helps us to split work that has to be done in smaller pieces and just do as much things in a day that may work . If we know just 2 small things can be done next to work we just plan only those two even if the timetable says there would be space for more .We think its important to plan things that bring energy . And its important to say no to things that cost you more energy than you have . Not all things people ask for have to be done by you.
Greetings
