Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-In Friday May 18th 2018
GOOOOOOOOD morning/afternoon/evening everyone!! It's about 1:15am for me, so we are almost all actually in Friday right now! At least, no one is yet in Saturday, and that's really all that matters here...right? Yeah, sure lol. So, I've seen people saying how they don't want to go to therapy, and I was just talking with someone who said they want to quit going, aaaaand....it's (almost) always for the same reason. We don't want to go because the topic will be too serious. We don't want to go because they're getting too close. We let them in and now we want them to leave. We've started to feel too vulnerable. And what has life taught us about being vulnerable? Well, we're in Trauma, so clearly nothing positive! I've seen so many of you find your voices within these forum threads. I've seen so many of you grow so very much in the time I've been here. I've also seen most of you pull away and become quiet when things got a bit too difficult. I know guys. I know it's so much easier to push people away than it is to let people in. I do it too! It's natural to retreat when things get a bit overwhelming. I just want you all to know how proud I am of each and every one of you for sticking with it. Whether you're in therapy or just talking to us here, it takes a lot of strength and courage to put up that fight every day, and you should all be so proud of yourselves. Never give up, Trauma family. We all have so much more to live for and to offer this world than we were led to believe 💜💙🖤💚💛🧡❤️

What do you all hold onto to get you through the tough times?
What makes you keep going?
For me, it's the kids I sponsor, the work I do, my family, my therapist, and you all right here in Trauma. There is also, for now, the added motivation of making it through school and getting my college degree. I was always told I was useless, worthless, I'd never do anything with my life, blahblahblah. Well guess what? I work in hospice. My job is literally a part of the system that helps dying people. I sponsor four kids in four different countries. I pull tags from the Angel Tree every year and make sure I get every item on that list. I made Dean's List again this semester. College was taken from me three times in my life, but it's mine now. I'm doin' the thing, and I'm killin' it! I am actually very happy with the majority of my life. I do a lot of good. I am the opposite of what I was told. Trauma brings me down. Trauma is heavy. Trauma...is not my burden to carry - that burden belongs to those who placed it on my shoulders to begin with. So just remember how the Grinch used to be, and what the Grinch became, because if he can do it, so can we 💜

How was your day/is your day looking/are you feeling today?
Feel free to stop in and say hi and let us know how you're doing 😊💜

@BeeLeigh
Whoa! I always thought you would make a good forum-y leader type person, Bee. And here you are. :) Congratzles whenever that happened!
Been awhile, I'm sure you can tell. XD
Had an interesting development in my life lately. Well...quite a few to be honest. A very rapidly changing time.
In that time, I got up the nerve to talk to the disability people at my school about my PTSD and an accommodation which they couldn't grant me. It was outside their realm since it was with a third party for testing. So, I'm probably not gonna be able to take that class this term and decided to finish this last one and make satisfactory progress for my financial aid. Guess the point is, I finally freakin' did it. I hid it for so long. Not to mention from my advisor who was a complete freakin' jerk.
So get this. Got an e-mail from my advisor for an app they were developing... for a mental health community and he wanted the students to name it. Uhhhhhhhhhh..... yeah. Funny thing is he was so freakin' rude and out of line to me because I HAVE mental health issues that got in the way of my studies! I finally am transferring away from this guy because he was so bad(woo got the courage), and here he is developing an app...for mental health support. WTF the irony. XD LOL I can't even. Just gotta laugh. But yeah!

@CaloenasNicobarica
😂 Oh Cal, that advisor really deserves a quatro-facepalm 😂 quite curious about how he'd name the app, Freaks-App? Lun-App? Don't-give-a-shit-but-here's-an-App? 😂
But I'm so glad you gather all your courage and got away from this guy 😊 that's definitely sth to be proud of... Sending you lots of *hugs* 💕💖
@courteousNorth5140
XD Those're great names, North. lol It took a lot to finally get things into gear, but I'm really happy for the next advisor. Woo! <3
Thought about sending in Argument Clinic. Like the one in Monty Python. Also, Oh-so-you-just-didn't-feel-like-doing-it. Where it gives you a tongue-lashing and demoralization every two weeks, then sends out a passive-aggressive motivational meme to you and the other users. X_X; What's next? The Loony Bin- a dating app for those struggling with mental health issues. ...Staaaaph.

@CaloenasNicobarica
😂 I love the Loony Bin, that's just hilarous 😂 you'll get rich with that... oh and of course Argument Clinic, perfect.... Ideas over ideas... *hugs*
Hey Bee <3
What do you all hold onto to get you through the tough times? What makes you keep going?
the future. I know that things will always get better. After the sun sets and its a dark night, the sun always rises after.
When i go through hard times, i think of the past too. How would i ve reacted a year ago? What can i do better to learn from it all?
But my best friends are also such a lovely motivation to keep going. They never stop believing in me, no matter what kind of a mess i sometimes am ;)
And the trauma family of course, its such a motivation to me to see you all everyday, to hear from you lovely souls
@BeeLeigh hehe good timing with the topic! Had a bad start today so this definitely motivated me a bit and helped me to think of why i should keep going and not give up haha!
Wishing everyone a good day!
Hi Bee, I have only had counselling and there is a maximum of 6 sessions per year, and when I went to the sessions all that happened was I spilled my guts to the person who then only said "that doesn't sound nice" which was pretty useless and makes me annoyed just thinking about because I went with the expectation that I would be given help and learn how to cope better, so every time I went I would leave feeling raw and vulnerable about things that I normally refuse to think about, and open old wounds that should never have been opened without being given help to close them again. And because I'm so scared to tell people that they are making things worse I would always say thank you and yes this is helping.
Hopefully I should be starting group therapy next month, where the courses are significantly longer and the staff are trained to properly help. I am nervous but glad that I can finally get some proper help.
I am really struggling at the moment and am not really sure of anything that keeps me going.
Love and hugs
Therapy is such hard work. Sometimes I come out feeling drained and crying other times frustrated I couldn't find the words to say what I wanted. Trusting someone to respect what you have been through and not to laugh or berare you for your actions is hard work. I am however more of a mess without so I keep going hoping one day I'll be able to live with my own thoughts again. My boyfriend keeps me going as I know to keep a balanced relationship I need to be able to stand bye myself and not rely on him for everything :)
On other matters it's my birthday today and I had an awesome day :D so I am feeling pretty awesome right now which is kinda nice :)

@Lilibuth12 💃🏽🎂🎁🎉🎈 Hooray!

it's kinda ironic that today's check in talks about therapy since i had therapy today! it was a good appointment. got something off my chest and it felt really nice to get her imput on it. i did talk about some uncomfortable things. i mentioned my one abuser by name for the first time. don't really know why i did that, it just kind of happened. i didn't even realize it until my therapist pointed it out haha.
i did get triggered tonight though. it kind of just led me to triggering myself more to give me an excuse to harm myself. i'm in a better mental place now, just frustrated with myself for it happening.
Im very jumpy and easily startled. Does anyone else deal with that? It can be something as little as someone conversationally raising their voice or as big as someone intentionally trying to scare me and I fall to the floor and curl up in a ball. Everyone thinks its funny. Even my boyfriend and kids, my co workers, friends. Nobody knows anything about my past except my boyfriend and he doesnt know much at all. I feel bad because sometimes I make the other person feel super uncomfortable, especially when its unintentional and something small that shouldnt matter. I dont want to make anyone else feel weird by explaining why Im jumpy, and I dont like talking about my past, so I usually laugh and make a joke out of it. But I hate it. It sucks. If you struggle with this how do you deal? How do you let people know without having to go into the whole thing or making them feel uncomfortable or awkward?
