@Kate

Self-care for me usually involves listening to music, learning new things, and and taking care of myself phyically (cooking, showering with nice fancy soap, styling my hair, etc.).

This week, I'm nervous and excited. I'm right on the verge of breaking into the field I've spent years training for, but each time I get close something silly happens and it's held off. This week, I hope, will be the last I have to rely on odd jobs and loans to meet basic expenses.

My favorite part of this weekend was spending time alone in the house. It's normally full of people coming and going at all hours, but this weekend was quiet. I really enjoyed the stillness.

Going to through school for me was quite difficult. I worked as a waitress and bartended to keep up. I don't think I really slept all that much during that time. I don't know how I did it but it was worth it. Good luck and please take care of yourself. Stillness is quite nice for people who rarely gets one. I also enjoy being still and getting some quite alone time.

@Rebekahwriter13

Sounds like where I want to be minus the lady issue! that's one issue I have too and reason why I feel wonky and home bound so much.

I just started cooking but I am still completely lost. My boyfriend just gave me Ninja food processor and blender for valentines day, I have no idea what to do with them! Any idea to use them to make healthy meals? So far, all I can think of is making cookie dough in the food processor. * as if it's what needed. it's really not.

Are you part of the healthy living community? You should totally log your daily cooking! I'd be all over it.

Have a good day and enjoy healthy eating!

@Jackie Thank you. I will have to check out the cooking area.

With the blender, you can do healthy smoothies. . . Soups, sauces. . . I would love a blender.

. Hi

Sometimes, self-care is as simple as turning on my electric blanket and laying underneath. Or reading a good mystery book. Sometimes I do also enjoy getting outdoors even if its only for a short time.

part of yesterday and for even a little bit more today, I have actually felt like a person. Like a bona fide normal living breathing human being. There werent 12 things that I was trying to shuffle in my mind and/or block out all at once. There was no pressure pushing at me while I was trying to concentrate on doing what I was doing in the present. I think that I just kind of felt like how normal people feel most of the time. Yesterday and today are the first time Ive had that like that in years. I wish I was exaggerating when I said years but sadly Im not. Im very grateful that things are suddenly getting so much better. I dont exactly know why but I have been working really hard for a really long time so I guess Im maybe finally starting to see more pay off from my efforts.

I have struggled a little bit today and yesterday to with bits and pieces of flashbacks. Its also been causing me to I think have some slightly strange thoughts today. Although I can likely trace that back to my past trauma. But still not the kind of thoughts that I enjoy. I dont know quite what to think about some of thoughts Ive had today. Although my therapist always says thoughts and feelings are just thoughts and feelings, and they dont mean anything. Some of them were a little weird though and still struggling with memories of the past returning.

@pioneeringBanana1598

I think a lot of people here can relate. You did a fantastic job putting your emotions in words. I know I personally never knew or recalled how it feels to be "normal" because I was ill for so long. But when I do feel different it was quite nice. Beside from resentment, anger and sadness, I felt nothing. Then I wondered if feeling nothing is part of being normal. I enjoyed every bit of the moment and continued to strive to have more days of "nothing".

What helped me was remembering what I did differently to shift my negative feelings. Some days I got better sleep and the byproduct was to feel better, some days I took a longer dog with me dog and felt tired mid afternoon.

Do you remember doing anything different the 2 days you felt "normal"? Maybe it's worth while to try it out and see if you can control your days bit better. Please update us if you can and good luck!

I know exactly how you feel when you say you feel like a normal person, plus the weird thoughts that come along. I bet your hard work is paying off, and that's so wonderful! Good job! I just wanted to comment because your post made me feel less alone. Thank you for sharing.

Long post...

Self care, for me, is a lot about feeling put-together. I can't do self-care that isn't super productive, bcause then I feel guilty. Laying around watching my favorite shows or taking a day off isn't the best for me (I know, it sounds crazy). So I feel healthier when I take time to groom myself: Take a bath, shave, exfoliate, paint my nails, do my eyebrows, wear a face mask... If I feel clean, I feel like I can do almost anything. My self care is also really rooted in giving myself a pleasant space to exist in. I'm a cluttered, messy person and so if my mental health isn't up to snuff, my living space can become rather hazardous to be in. To self-care, I make sure that I tidy, organize, and clean my living space. I used to really despise being clean, when I was in my traumatic situation, because a part of my experience was living with someone who obsessive compulsively cleaned. Now, however, I have found peace with it, and it has become therapeutic for me to embrace a reasonable level of tidying up. Much like the article, I also recharge when I go out into the world. When I lived in the redwoods in northern California, if ever I felt upset, I'd put on my boots and a jacket and I'd take a hike. I always, without fail, felt better when I returned. I live in a big city now, and I still struggle with social anxiety and some paranoia, so it's hard for me to get out into the hustle and bustle between the concrete, but I'm getting better at it every day! Also, this may seem a bit obvious, but 7cups is a really pivotal part of my self-care! If I'm not doing 7cups exercises and check-ins, I find I'm not doing so hot-- so I make sure to keep at them as much as I can! Finally, my best self-care is to surround myself with people I love! Nothing cures any ailment like a little bit of love.
