Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in: Monday October 1st

Happy Monday Trauma Community!

How are you feeling going into this new week and new month?

We have quite a few awareness events happening this month including Bullying Prevention Month. Bullying can present itself in many different ways both here on 7 Cups and in our day-to-day lives. Unfortunately, many (if not all) of us have experienced bullying in some way or another throughout our journeys.

As you go through today's check-in and self-assessment here are a few questions related to bullying to think about:

- What does it mean to be bullied?

- If you have comfortable sharing, have you ever experienced bullying? If so, in what ways?

- What are some steps we can do this month (and every other month) to prevent bullying from happening here on 7 Cups and in our daily lives?

Please do not feel the need to answer the check-in questions if you don't want to. You are always welcome to simply check-in with how you're feeling, share what's going on in your lives or ask for support. heart

My traumatic experience was when I had a car accident and now I am always afraid to drive anywhere.

@boober1

That sounds really scarey! Im sorry you had to go through that. Thats definitely a valid reason to have fears about driving, i hope by being here you can start to process through those feelings. We are always here if you need to talk!

Hi Boober

Thank you for sharing your trauma with us. Im so sorry you were in a car accident, that sounds really scary and I think a fear of driving makes very much sense after something like that. We are here to support you and to listen if you'd like. Do you have any other support around you to help you prosess as well?

@Kate

A new month a new me. Another chance to accomplish everything I set out to do.

I didn't realized I was being picked on and targeted at school because I just thought that was how it is. It felt normal because the teachers and parents were doing it too, except it was harder to not think of what the adults were saying as the truth. The students were picking mostly on the physical and attacked physically before, but the adults were targeting the non-physical aspects. I think it has happened or is happening at work now.

It was easier not knowing. Easier to escape into a different world. Why would it matter anyways they didn't care for what I really think or wanted me to think. Maybe if I had known I wouldn't have gotten into worse...

Maybe if examples of bullying were given, the awareness will help people stop it and also let those affected realize those behaviors aren't right.

Hi Being! Sorry for whats happened to you at work and at school. I agree that it is much harder to process being bullied from adults. Even though its a tough realization to come to, I think it could be a good thing because now that you recognize that it is bullying, maybe you can take some steps to either talk to someone about it, or steps to stop or prevent it. Maybe you could read through some of the other comments for some ideas? I know several people have posted some good ones. And also, I know how being bullied can start to affect ones self worth, so its important to know that what people say or do to you doesnt reflect who you are, it reflects who they are. Sorry for the rambles :)

Im really sorry to hear you experienced bullying as a child and that its happening again now as an adult. That is just not right. You matter and what you think and feel matter. Sadly some people are bullies and toxic and they are not able to see that or they just ignore it, but that is not your fault, and it does not in any way diminish your worth.

I think awareness is a good thing, being able to identify and then try to figure out how to handle it. I think Canvas had some great tips you might find helpful.

@Kate

Sometimes it feels like there's a lot of bullying on 7 cups but I don't know how to get around it.
