Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in: Monday October 29th

Happy Monday Trauma Community!
This week marks the end of another month, a fresh start and beginning of a new month, and also Halloween!
For many of us, Halloween is a fun time to get dressed up, watch a scary movie (if that's your thing) and eat some candy.
For many others, however, Halloween can be a potentially triggering time. Whether it's the scary costumes, spooky decorations, or sudden knocks on your door, Halloween isn't always just 'treats.'
This article from The Mighty details how living with PTSD can make Halloween a particularly stressful and uncomfortable time.
- Do you celebrate Halloween?
- If so, is it an enjoyable holiday for you?
- Favorite candy
- Favorite costume you've ever worn
If Halloween isn't your thing, still feel free to check in, let us know how your weekend went, how you're feeling, what you're looking forward to this week, or just say hi.

@Kate
Hi.
I don't really celebrate Halloween anymore. I used to. I don't mind it during the day. At night I'm not a fan. I don't like masks because I can't see people's faces.
- Do you celebrate Halloween? I do!
- If so, is it an enjoyable holiday for you? Yes, it's my second favourite holiday, after Christmas :)
- Favorite candy I'm not picky! But I do love chocolate.
- Favorite costume you've ever worn Jack Skellington. I have the outfit and then I did the makeup :D
So today was really hard. I go to counselling every Monday (specifically sexual abuse counselling) and just talking about things is really hard. My counsellor was concerned about some of the things I said which freaked me out and I'm not really sure how to process her response. When the session was over, I was walking back into town and started panicking and felt like crying because everything was catching up with me. I think ultimately, these sessions will be helpful but they're just incredibly difficult at the moment.
Hi Kate,
I have never been a huge fan of Halloween. However, when I became a Mom it was an event that my son and his friends really enjoyed. So watching their smiles and hearing them having so much fun gave me the inspiration I needed to participate and be fully present.
He is grown now so I cannot really say I participate anymore. I keep some candy on hand just in case little ones knock on the door, but large festivals are more common here.
I dont really remember Halloween from my childhood so focus on the positive memories of my son enjoying the holiday. My favorite costume is one that I pulled together when he was about two or three. We sat on the front steps of the house giving out candy to the neighborhood children when suddenly he had to be a Dalmatian from the movie. White PJs, a black laundry marker, face paint and a quickly improvised tail made his night. Best evening ever.
I dont eat sweets very often but sour patch kids, starburst or laughy taffy are probably my guilty pleasures.
Honestly, I make pumpkin bread every year for friends to enjoy if they drop by or I am visiting them. It is my favorite part of Halloween as we always enjoy getting together.
Have a good evening and thanks for the article with some good tips for the season
My father's acting like a pervert again so that happened
I have never really done Halloween. My parents are religious and strongly against it, my mum believes in evil spirits and thinks that haloween is like playing with fire.
In contrast the current bf loves it ahah, he loves to dress up and it's more of an excuse to see friends and see fireworks than anything else.
I haven't don't anything for Halloween this year but honestly noones knocked on the door, in bigger towns is not really a big thing lol. In the UK anyway.
I have chiropractor and therapy in the next few days so feeling nervous but hoping they will go okay.
@Kate nope dont celebrate it and dont agree with it i see the knocking on doors for treats as begging it can also become violent if you refuse to open door so i highly disagree with the holiday i turn my lights off to show im not interested
as for how i am hmm fighting off a stubborn cold still
