Traumatic Experiences Community Forum Daily CheckIn - Wednesday 15th February 2017
How are you all doing? I hope your are taking care of yourselves and practising some self compassion. Remember everyone has their good and bad days especially when dealing with trauma issues so please be kind to yourselves and don't give yourselves a hard time for being human and having emotions and feelings that sometimes get a little tough to deal with. We are here for you and this space is yours to share how you are, what you are doing to look after yourselves, what self care techniques have you been trying out this past week, any achievements, any thoughtful moments you have had on your healing journey etc This space is for all of you to offer your support to one another, and even share a moment of laughter if you wish :)

So today, someone in real life shared with me that they had experienced an abusive childhood. There were so many questions I wanted to ask, so much compassion I felt and support I wanted to give. But I blanked, because all I could mutely think was 'so did I'. But I couldn't share that either. So someone who trusted me enough to share something so big must now view me as a completely insensitive bitch. Had she responded to me the way I did to her, I'd be devastated. How can I put it right?
@BestIcanbe
Tell her exactly what you just said. Or just show her your post 🤷🏼♀️
@BeeLeigh I think that's a good idea too. I know we aren't meant to give out much personal information, but I don't think that means we can't talk in general that we can empathise use to having had a similar experience.
@BestIcanbe This is something I am quite worried about happening to me as a listener too. I empathise with your post a lot. *hugs*
@resourcefulPond1641
It wasn't as a listener. It was a work colleague. She threw me because it seemed to come up so easily, but it just left me wanting to vomit and cry. But it wasn't about me, so why make it about me, even in my head. Honestly, I'm so peed off at myself for not being able to just put the past behind me. It keeps raising its filthy head, and I hate it!
@BestIcanbe
Well it's not always so easy to just put the past behind you, as you are well aware.
I'm sorry you are suffering as a result of it being brought up. :( *hugs*
It's making me think I should be more careful when and to who I mention things about my own PTSD. We never know how it will affect other people. That's one of the reason's for trigger warnings, but conversations don't really carry them. Maybe they / we should?
I'm completely exhausted and overwhelmed and I have too much I need to get done to be dealing with this right now. I literally don't have time to be crying as much as I have been.
@BeeLeigh *hugs* I empathise because I've been feeling in a similar way lately.
@BeeLeigh
You sound like you want to just be rid of it too, and I absolutely get that. I want to say, dealt with, move on.....and sometimes I can. But it keeps giving me an unpleasant nudge, and I'm heartily sick of my inability to just dump this and move away from it. It makes moving on double hard, when you're carrying so much rubbish around with you.
Sorry, that was far more about me than you, and we're probably having completely different experiences. I was just trying to say I relate.....you don't deserve to be burdened by your experiences. Hugs ❤️
@BeeLeigh
I absolutely hear you, after being in a similar position few weeks ago i found cotton swabs dipped in chilled milk works wonders for puffy eyes... just rest back and lay the milky swabs over your eyes for 20 minutes or so... its true magic in my opinion.. and Bee... remember you are an amazing and strong individual who is loved here ❤
@BeeLeigh I'm so sorry you're feeling so overwhelmed right now! It seems like you're always giving so much and helping others, don't forget to treat yourself and take time for you! :)

'Twas a productive day of arranging appointments and planning some martial arts practice with some friends for tomorrow.. but now i know the sabbotage is gonna hit and im anxious about that 😓.. so! It all begins again... unless i do something different. But what?! I just dont know anymore
@helpfulWatermelon5615 Sabotage is understandable, especially if bad things have always happened and then when things go well, you dont trust that it wont go wrong. I think what you said is right, its about chosing I guess to try something different, try and not sabotage and learn to enjoy or accept when things can feel okay. I hope sabotage didnt kick in for you. Perhaps as a suggestion when you feel this happening, reach out here :)
