I have had some trauma in my past and have been better with triggers of certain things. But today one hit me really hard and I was wondering if anyone would be able to maybe give me some advice on how to ignore the trigger or ease the trigger in my mind so I am not thinking negatively.

Thank you

Being triggered is the worst feeling ever. I don’t know about you, but if me, it feels like I’m dying. Like I’m doomed to be alone until the end of my life. It’s like darkness try to consume me and it’s very scary, terrifying, awful, everything bad. I don’t want anyone to feel what I’ve went through everytime I get triggered..

If it’s me I will just cry and cry and sit with the fear. Because I know that it is only a feeling, it can’t do anything to me. I won’t die. But I know the feeling is real. So I just sit with the feeling until it subside. Emotion is temporary. They will go eventually.

Another way is to comfort myself and soothe myself. I will tell myself what I would tell someone that is scared. Tell myself that I’m safe. Nothing will hurt me. I will protect myself from everything that want to harm me.

From what I read, we will not healed completely from our trauma. We just learn to live with it. Once a while we will get triggered. Doesn’t mean we are not healing or broken in any ways. It just means we’re a survivor :)

Life is hard indeed. We’re allowed to be weak and cry. And then rise again. Let’s get through it with courage together. Wishing you the best xoxo

@cwarr2021 Hi! First of all, I'm so sorry to hear that you're being triggered. It's super hard to go through that and I, for one, understand how difficult it is. Personally, I find grounding exercises pretty helpful. Maybe you could try that and pair it with some deep breathing? Grounding yourself with your five senses might be something that could help. I also find it helpful to come up with a list of people whom you trust and feel comforted when thinking about them. Whenever I find myself triggered, I think about my list of 'comfort people' and verbalizing the things I'm grateful for. Hope this helps!
