Advice?

August 10th, 2016

I have a coworker who I've been concerned about her relationship with her on and off boyfriend. Even when they weren't dating he would tell her who she could and couldn't talk to. I told her that sounded controlling and could be dangerous, and asked her to really reconsider getting back with him. She told me he only acts "like that" when she makes him mad. :( She ended up going back with him and now I'm seriously concerned for her well being. She isn't allowed to talk to several coworkers now and he checks up to see if she is talking to these coworkers. He is also a coworker. We work in a casino, he's one of the security guys. He has gone so far as to watch her on camera. And when I worked a shift with her yesterday she was constantly glancing around and was extremely jumpy. It got worse after he came by on his 'rounds' to me it seems like she's scared of him. I don't know what to do, if anything to help her. Any advice?

Thank you for logging onto 7 Cups today, it seems like you're a really great friend, someone who looks out for those they care about. Ultimately, you can't control your friend and you can tell her what you think is best, but it is her choice about what she thinks may be the best decision for her. The best you may be able to do is give her access to professional resources for if she ever feels unsafe. She may be afraid to break up with him again, his behavior may be unpredictable. Only she and her boyfriend really knows. Just continue to care for her and be there when she needs you and make sure she's safe. Thank you for caring, everyone needs a friend like you.

@EleNergy thanks for replying. I'm thinking about bring some info about how to get out of bad situations and leaving it for anyone to read, her boyfriend wouldn't have access though. Is this an ok thing to do?

It really depends on your relationship with your friend and if he some how finds it, it may become a more dangerous situation. I can't tell you what to do, what is right or what is wrong. I have faith that you'll make the best decision for you and your friend. ❤ Let her know you're there for her and that there are resources available. How you go about that can be in various ways.
