A vent post?
Hi! I just need to vent as a "friend" of mine said I don't have trauma because she was r**ed and I was only sexually assaulted. Why do people find the need to compare who has worse. The first time I was assaulted I was 8 or 9. Then I had a babysitter who would do similar things. Then a guy followed me and touched places during our gym class. Another girl recorded me changing in the school locker room. I've had plenty of trauma. So why does it matter who has more? Sorry for the vent y'all.
I understand how it makes you feel discouraged when people invalidate your experiences like that. I believe that when people go through a lot of trauma like that, that they want to validated for the severity of the trauma that they have been through. A lot of trauma survivors have been invalidated. By comparing or downplaying others experiences they feel they are able to express the severity of their trauma. Because of this, certain trauma survivors may get overlooked and not be given as much empathy or support. You have been through a lot too and I am glad to see you reaching out sharing your experiences. Your voice matters.
