7y Questioning, Should I See Someone?
Yo, so basically I’ve been questioning OSDD for about 7 years now (from 12y to 18yrs old). Initially I decided to just wait and see how things go before stressing out over a possible diagnosis/needing help.
But recently I got to talk with some people who are professionally assessed on some level and they said I sound like I have it, and I’m minimizing stuff + denial (real)
Personally, I don’t think I have enough trauma to warrant OSDD. But I guess I did the whole “wait and see how it goes” annnnd it didn’t exactly go away.
I’m considering seeing a doctor but i don’t want to go through all of that if I’m just being dramatic LOL too much money bru.
//Some background on me, for those curious or needing the info for whatever reply.
Diagnosed - ADHD, GAD, DPDR, MDD
Suspected - Autism, OSDD
if I had to give a quick rundown of my childhood till now, it’d probably be somewhat inaccurate because i have memory gaps. but i’ll try (TW child abuse, mental health, physical illness, etc etc)
Slightly rocky start, my family was okay but after my original kindergarten teacher got cancer and quit, her replacement came in and she was emotionally abusive from what people tell me (her daughter also used to bully me but I didn’t notice lol), in second grade my family moved across the country to take care of my moms dad.
We didn’t have the greatest living situation, I was “homeschooled” but my mom was having her own issues and eventually stopped coming out her room to teach anything (struggling with mh and bipolar), and my dad was working all the time so I was usually unmonitored in the house all day except church days.
There were times where my mom was physically violent when I did see her, but I personally don’t think it was that bad. Either way I don’t remember that much from back then.
When I was 10 or so me and my brother were sent to live with my grandparents back in the original state, and they came behind us a few months later. It was rough, I didn’t get along with my grandma (she was Weird + liked my brother more). In 5th grade I went back to school for the first time since 2nd grade. Annnd thats basically everything I remember that happened within the developmental window DID/OSDD forms in.
lol if i tried to write anything else i’d hit a character limit or something. but yeah, should i see a therapist or am I just being dramatic silly goofy
@C3V Hey there,
It's important to take your feelings and concerns seriously, and it's understandable that you're questioning and exploring the possibility of OSDD. Considering what you've been through, it's natural to have questions about your experiences and emotions.
Seeing a therapist can be beneficial, especially if you're seeking clarity and support regarding your mental health. They can help you explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Remember, seeking professional help doesn't mean you're being dramatic or silly, it's a valid step towards understanding yourself better and addressing any challenges you may be facing.
If cost is a concern, some therapists offer sliding scale fees or payment plans to make it more affordable. Additionally, some communities provide mental health services at reduced costs or for free, so it's worth looking into local resources.
You've already taken positive steps by reaching out and sharing your thoughts. Remember that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Your well-being matters, and taking care of yourself is essential.
