Hi, I'm charlie and I'm 13. So around the begin of June I moved in full time with my dad after about 3 years of emotional and verbal abuse. My mom and I don't have the best relationship or one at all really, but when I was living with my mom whenever I was upset, when something happened, or when I just wanted to talk. My mom would say stuff like your being dramatic, I don't care, go away I don't want to talk to you, shut up its not important, quit crying I don't want to hear it. Stuff like that but my mom and I would argu because I would be upset and she would dismiss me and I would just sit there crying because the one person in the world who I trusted and loved didn't care about me but when we would argu she would yell at me and tell me how ungrateful I was she would say I put a roof over your head I gave you food to eat and it's just not enough for you your so ungrateful your old enough to figure it out for yourself now quit wasting my time and go away and be normal. The amount of times I've heard your not normal your broken and that I'm just being dramatic. I would feel so guilty for my thoughts, feelings, and problems, and to be honest I still do. Every time I talk I have so much anxiety and fear that I'm being a inconvenience and that I'm going to get shut down when I talk. I still have to call my mom when my dad says I have to because I should still try and have a relatively with my mom. But every time we talk for even just 5 minutes my world shaters I start shaking and crying and I hide in the bathroom scared I'm going to get in trouble. If it were up to me I wouldn't call my mombut it's not up to me and I never know when I'm going to have to talk to her again and I'm terrified of calling her and I feel bad that I'm scared to talk to her I'm scared I'm just being dramatic and making it worse then it is and I'm scared of my mom

Am I being dramatic and is this just normal and I'm just making it worse then it is?

@Charlieunknowing23

You are not being dramatic at all.

Your feelings are valid.

We all communicate and react differently to things.

Your mother shouldn't be as dismissive.

But yes, she is your mother, doesn't give licence to be rude.

Keep the conversations pleasant and short and keep your boundaries in place 🥰

@Charlieunknowing23 Charlie no way are you being dramatic. Your feelings are valid. It’s tough having your feelings dismissed. The person doing the dismissing is hurting themselves whether they realize it or not. It’s hard but look for the positives.
