Do I have depression?
Do i have depression? I mean i feel bad even believing that, I grew up surrounded by the mentality shaming mental ilness and suicide, which i never though okay.
And when i say depression i'm not saying i'm unhappy or suicidal, i've been but not anymore. It's just that there are always times that I need to use all my energy getting out of bed, and with time I am able to go on with my day but it's all so forced, I force myself to eat and I force myself to do everything else. I notice this patterns start with me not getting up at time or starting to sleep more than normal (like 11/12 hours). I think I am exageranding by thinking it's something that serious, but what if it is?
As someone who has had deal wit wat yr saying yes I would say you do. Depression in the end is truley not even a feeling comparable to happy, sad, angry etc, it's the the lack of feeling at all(in a shameful way, not narcissist-like). And nah u ain't exaggerating, don't think you r. "What If I am", well you It's more important that you realize wat it is. It's not a good idea to force yourself to diminish how you feel, because it's only only gonna hurt u . And ya I feel you wit growing up in those circumstances. I suffer from depression too, due to a build up from years and years over problems wit family, relationships, and environmental circumstances. I've starved myself, haven't been on time etc
If I were you I would try to connect with the parts of your life that made you happy. Whether it is a family member a friend or even something like music or a sport/art, it really just depends on the person you are. You should also somehow try to maintain a schedule. I know it can be really hard too but if you add something to your day that you have freedom and can enjoy wat u like then yr good. Im sorry your feeling this way, but remember you can grow from rock bottom. Much love to you I hope this helped out 🙏
@impartialSummer2119 Maybe start with getting a general physical exam. If you like, check out Dr. David Burns book, Feeling Good. It contains simple self tests for depression and excellent tools for squashing depression.
