I'm struggling with CPTSD. I didn't remember anything for years. Literally nothing. Once I started dig into my past in therapy, it started to come back. This is so weird and scary. I can't understand how can you just forget a part of your life, even though I know how repression works. Has anyone experienced something similar with trauma? That you completely forgot and remembered years later?

I started reading a self-help book, @Purple578 that was recommended by a friend. I was willing to try just about anything to grow and heal. The book recommended that instead of running from my feelings, or denying them or suppressing them, that I let myself feel them completely. With compassion.

Well I was wound so tight that it didn't take much for my forgotten previous pain to erupt as screams. I was surprised at the depth of the pain. And what was more shocking is that after I let myself completely feel the pain, and after I cried all the tears that would come, I felt much much better. Relieved.

And the feeling never came back as strongly after I let them come out.

@Purple578

I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through all of this. Don't worry, you're not alone here. Its great that you shared this with us, I love seeing people share their experiences.

I can understand how you feel because I experienced something a little similar, I haven't completely forgotten a part of my life but I'm struggling with my memory, it's hard for me to remember things that happened in the past few years.

There are some years that I cannot remember at all unless someone shows me a pic or vid to remind me, sometimes I remember and sometimes I don't. when I try to think about what happened in a specific year I can't think about anything. It feels like my head goes blank when I try to remember.

Stay strong, you've got this💗
