How do I handle my constant disassociation
I've been dealing with disassociation for over 2 years now, it's destroyed my memory of those years and I can barely remember last night's dinner 90% of the time, it's unbearable and I feel like someone else has lived the last couple years of my life. I look in the mirror and I can't even recognize myself most of the time. I think it's been because of stress but it's gotten too out of hand recently, I also think my disassociation is the reason I can't remember much of my childhood anymore. I can't recall basically any of my memories oven though I'm still quite young
@limegreenTiger4378 I'm sorry you're dealing with this. There's a few things you could try that might help you stay present. Journaling can be helpful. It's a good way to get out the things that we might not feel comfortable telling someone. It can also help recognize triggers and can ease stress. Grounding can be helpful too. There are different grounding methods you could try. It's good to have a few different methods because what works one time, might not always work. Do you have hobbies or something you enjoy doing that helps you relax?
Yeah, I spend as much time as I can fishing, I'd say it's definitely main hobby, idk if it counts as a hobby but I also have a tortoise I take care of. I think both of those are the things that usually bring me back I little
@limegreenTiger4378 Fishing is an awesome hobby! It's relaxing and fun and gets you into nature. And you have a tortoise! That's so awesome! Those are both activities you enjoy and they're have benefits for you by helping your stress ease. Maybe during those times you could practice some grounding methods to try when you start to feel yourself dissociate? It's best to practice them during calm moments. I like the 333 method. It's easier to remember than the 54321 method. It's 3 things you see, 3 things you hear and move 3 body parts
@limegreenTiger4378 Don't focus on the past, focus on the future, create the life you desire, find what you love in this life, find identity. If you have trouble remembering basic things, write them down in a journal or videotape what you think you’ll forget or need to remember.
