I Made Friends With A Spider

I made friends with a spider

Silly little spider that makes gold webs

Wrinkly little legs

But that's quite alright

The spider loved to give

Gifts of paper and string

Me and the spider were young

But we loved to play

Some days, when it was sad

The spider would nibble at my arm

It hurt a little, but I didn't mind

The spider just got sad sometimes

One day, I had to leave the spider

All alone as I moved away

It made me sad, but that's okay

Me and the spider said goodbye

I made friends with a spider

Who looked just like me

Brown silk, super social

It paired well with a shy kid like me

I talked with the spider

Every single day

I got in trouble sometimes

When the teacher saw

Friends for years, such a long time

Our families met and hung out a lot

Sometimes the spider would nibble at my arm

But it's okay, the spider was just sad

But then the nibbles

Grew to small little bites

They itched and they hurt

But I smiled still

I don't think the spider knew

That the bites hurt the way they did

I wanted to help the poor sad spider

Through everything it went through

One day, the spider got hurt

It called out to me, and I ran to help

But I noticed when I asked for help

The spider would stay on its little web

The spider kept biting

I was told to stay away

...I still talk to this spider

Up to this very day

I made friends with a spider

No, a whole group of them!

3 little spiders

That all spun black webs

The first spider bit quite a bit

And had a thing called 'tough love'

I thought this was okay

Because at least it didn't hurt too much

The second spider, such a tiny thing

But had an attitude the size of a mountain

I don't think this spider liked me as much

It tended to bite other people

The third spider was a little nicer

But was best friends with the second spider

This spider didn't bite, which I'm glad

I just wish it could've stayed

Everyday, I was nibbled and bitten

But I shrugged it off, it's okay

This is what spiders do, right?

You have to get hurt sometimes

One day, the first two spiders

Bit me hard and deep

Blood leaked from my skin

And I sat there crying

The spiders had said many lies

About me, and who I was

They hated me, they pretended to like me

And they exposed that to the world

I got away from the first two spiders

Hoping the third spider would stay

But that little spider chose to go

With the other spiders that hurt me

...

I made friends with a spider

Although this spider was through a screen

There was a whole group of spiders!

So many new ones to talk to!

One spider I talked to

Spun light brown webs

...But they said a lot of things

That nibbled at other people

The spider liked attention

But when trying to get it

They ended up biting

Little nibbles in the end

Another spider, I talked with more

Light brown webs, yet somehow I saw

Slivers of red within their delicate silk

But I ignored it- it's nothing, right?

The spider liked to bite

Over and over

This spider couldn't decide

If it liked me or hated me

This spider mimicked me

Things that was wrong with me

The spiders bites were too painful

I had to run away

But there's another spider

Two, actually, that I liked

They didn't bite at all

These are such nice spiders

...But they're friends with the others

The ones that did bite

One day, something happened

And I couldn't talk to those spiders

...But it's okay!

I'm talking to spiders!

Everyone talks to spiders, right?

...right?

...I guess I keep forgetting

Spiders like to bite

I keep getting hurt

Is it really worth that?

I've been bitten too much

They're poison in my skin

Seeping into my head

And I can't escape

Don't make friends with spiders

It always turns into a fight

And if you already talk to spiders...

...get away before they bite

This poem is an analogy, but the message may be lost, so here's some explanations:

Spiders represent the toxic friends in life.

Webs/silk are mostly just saying their hair color. Helps to identify the spiders. (the red silk in that one spider is the dangerous amount of red flags they had that I ignored)

The nibbles are things that the spiders to that hurt you, and often they don't do it on purpose. It just hurts.

Bites are things they do that hurt you. It hurts a lot. They do it on purpose. Whether its a physical/verbal fight, an argument, etc.

The spider poison is the aftereffects of what happened. Traumatic experiences, bad memories, bad habits, etc.

This entire poem is representing the toxic friends I've had in my life. How they've either hurt me, used me as the therapist friend ("the spider was just sad"), or left me. Be careful of the spiders in your life.
