Learning to trust after years of pain

grew up in an environment where I never felt safe or loved. There was violence at home, and I was often the target. I was bullied badly at school — so much that I had to leave. Even my closest friend eventually betrayed me and joined in. I felt invisible to my own family, and whenever I was sad, I cried alone. This loneliness has followed me into adulthood. I don't know how to trust anyone, or how to feel safe. I'm starting therapy, but right now I just need to know I'm not alone.

Unfortunately you are not alone in being mistreated, a lot of us have horror stories too. I hope therapy will help you work through it.

What I've learned is that trust takes time to develop so with anyone new, I just take it slowly and see how they treat me, when I'm vulnerable or in some sort of crisis and if I don't feel supported, bar them being busy or dealing with their own stuff, I usually move on.

Safety wise, I try and think of my home as a castle, it's got locks and alarms and it's my place to let my guard down.

I just try and write out my fears and say Ok, I may not be feeling good right now, but some time in the future that will change..

@blueLand6794 - I can related to you. Yes it's hard and at times, you don't see a way out but you are not alone! You can do this. Healing is possible.
