Tw: violence, child abuse

Im experiencing nightmares, constantly remembering events throughout the day, extreme anxiety when hearing people argue. I’m no contact with 2 of the kids my parents adopted and im trying to avoid the 3rd as much as possible but they still live with me.

When I was 9, my parents adopted 4 kids. 3 had severe issues and were constantly loosing it and having to be sent to get help. One of them tried to kill us all on several occasions, tried to set the house on fire several times, constant stealing, and abusing other people. The oldest tried to kill my mom, called the cops and lied at least 4 times to get my parents arrested, ran away, and was constantly lying to people at school to cause more bullying. The constant fighting and arguing they caused was insane. They both have moved out but every time something happens in their lives they try to come back into ours and it causes so much anxiety and stress on me. One that still lives with us, gets a high from arguing and fighting. Every single day there’s a new problem with that one. They try arguing with the youngest, and it turns into full screaming matches over something as simple as a pillow was moved from one seat to another. They’re starting to sneak out at night, sneak people in. I’m having to take them somewhere every single day bc they’re always wanting to meet up with friends. It’s to the point that I get nervous when I hear their door open or see them messaging me because I know im going to have to quit what I’m doing to do something for them. Ever since we adopted them, I had to raise myself bc my parents were so busy trying to stop them from burning the world down. I also had to constantly protect the youngest of the 4 bc I didn’t want her exposed to everything they were doing.

That’s no where near all of it. I feel like im overreacting though and that I just need to get over it. I feel like I shouldn’t have ptsd from this because all I went through was really just some arguing and bad siblings. I wasn’t ever physically abused.

Thanks for taking the time to open up and be vulnerable about how life actually is, on the inside, that many people won't see.

I don't think you're over-reacting at all. Just because it's not physical, it's still really powerful and it still affects people.

I was surrounded by unpleasantness and I just crave peace now. I hope venting will help you feel even the tiniest bit better or supported.

For me, I just had to have my own selfish highlights or purposes, something that gave me a lil joy everyday.

So headphones and music, books, cheesy tv shows, walks, writing, gaming etc. Made the days bearable until I moved out.
