Pandora’s box opened…

Feeling so off getting off my Seroquel even though I’m still on a high dose. I can’t do anything, and I have to do this. The past trauma comes through like Pandora’s box has been opened because the meds suppress the effects of my trauma. ): Anyone else experiencing this type of thing? I feel awful.

That is incredibly overwhelming! It sounds like getting off of the Seroquel is allowing a lot of high intensity feelings to hit you all at once. And I know trauma doesn’t take a break. It has to be overwhelming too in the sense that those aren’t feelings you are used to coping with, since the medication turned them down. Dang, I just took a breath thinking about that awful feeling. Those are some pretty intense emotions to have to experience.

I hope there might be some ways to build a shelter in that whirlwind. Pieces that ground you or tell your nervous system to chill out for a second. I don’t know if you enjoy listening to music, and building a go-to playlist might help when you want to push pause on your brain. Also, humming can stimulate your vagus nerve, slow your breathing, and tell your brain to take a hike for a second. Taking a deep breath in, and letting it go in a big, deep sigh communicates to our bodies that we are safe and it’s ok to relax. Here is a link to progressive muscle relaxation, which is helpful in getting tension out of your body.

I can only imagine how scary and tiring it has to be with the force of your trauma crashing over you. It sounds exhausting. And I hope you are able to find ways to build a “shelter” that you can visit when it gets overwhelming. I’m proud of you. For being here. You are doing awesome, even when it just feels sucky. :)
