Scared and overwhelmed

I am a first timer here. I have PTSD from a long marriage to an abusive person. Mostly emotional , psychological, and occasionally physical. We have 2 children, now teens. He now has us followed/keeps tabs in us and financially abuses us. I try to keep as much as possible from impacting the kids, but this is taking a toll on me too. I’ve been trying to find a counselor, but the waiting lists are long. I have developed major anxiety and can’t trust a lot of people.

Due to the financial abuse, I’m underemployed and we are now living day to day and in a hotel. In fact, I don’t know how we will pay for a room tonight. I can’t help but feel like it would have been better staying in the abuse to have a bit more stability. I just don’t feel like I’m making great decisions. I deserve more and my kids certainly do as well.

I need help and have no where to turn.

@lakeview

That sounds like an unimaginably difficult position to be in.  As scary as it is, I think you made the right decision.  Besides your own suffering, your kids will also suffer, from seeing you living in a state of desperation and despair.  It also influences their level of hope for their own futures.

What are the resources in your area for receiving emergency help?
