The Cost Of Big Boys Don't Cry Poem
When I was little,
I thought tears were just tears.
Then the world started watching.
One laugh.
One look.
One sentence.
"Be strong."
So I learned.
I learned to bite my tongue
until it bled.
To swallow words
that needed air.
To carry pain
like it weighed nothing.
Years passed.
People said,
"You're handling it well."
They never asked
how much of me disappeared
just to make it look that way.
I became an expert
at saying,
"I'm fine."
Even when every part of me
was falling apart.
I stood at funerals.
I buried dreams.
I lost people I loved.
I blamed myself
for things I couldn't change.
And every time my eyes filled,
I heard the same lesson
echoing inside my head.
Big boys don't cry.
So I didn't.
I carried yesterday into today,
today into tomorrow,
and tomorrow into another year.
Until I couldn't remember
what it felt like
to put the weight down.
People call that strength.
They never see the cost.
Because the strongest-looking people
are sometimes the ones
holding themselves together
with nothing
but silence.
Maybe that's why
so many battles
are fought where no one can see.
Maybe that's why
so many smiles
hide exhausted souls.
Maybe that's why
the words
"I'm okay"
have become
the saddest lie
some of us
ever learn to tell.
If you've ever felt that weight...
If you've ever stood
in a room full of people
and still felt completely alone...
If you've ever convinced yourself
that your pain
had to stay hidden...
You're not the only one.
The world taught us
that big boys don't cry.
But nobody ever taught us
where the tears go.
They don't disappear.
They become anxiety.
They become anger.
Sleepless nights.
Broken relationships.
Silent drives
with the radio turned up
so no one hears you breaking.
The smile
that fools everyone.
The bottle
that promises relief.
The panic attack
that comes out of nowhere.
The apology
you never got to say.
The love
you never learned
how to ask for.
They told us
to hold it all in.
They never warned us...
That tears don't vanish.
They just learn
how to drown a man
from the inside.
@CradleDuck
😔
That's powerful.
Raw.
Perfectly and beautifully expressed.
The honesty.
The struggle.
The feeling of being alone.
I hope every man knows, it's ok to cry.
It's ok to ask for help.
To need support.
To talk things through.
This makes you strong not weak.
Brave not a coward
It doesn't make you less of a man but a better one 💛
You are awesome
