Trauma Event: How do you Cope?
Hi there…
i’m new to this app and just trying to be aware of what’s appropriate to share or not.
i’m pretty new to traumatic events (in my opinion) at 25 years old. Questioning this who Trauma Events:
- I didn’t have a rough childhood
-I was the happiest person everyone knew .
—New and confused because my first traumatic event was in 2020. I wasn’t physically hurt, yes emotionally beat up. But then I was “fine” a week later
-flash forward to this year, 2022. Things… mental health went down hill. I didn’t realize how traumatizing July 2022-current was going to be for me.
-frustrating part now… if I can get a therapist one on one to take time and help me figure out my current crisis , (in my opinion) situation . The things I wanted to cover before July , was the main reason that I needed to get back into therapy
—Now traumatic event number 2 is still current. So, now my focus is on getting the correct support I need .Thing is I’m terrified because medication Could be an issue (seeing psychiatrist again next week) but once we figure out the medication issue, I’m afraid of then feeling fine and then, putting in all this effort for serious mental health support, and definitely not wanting to think that I’m crazy.
Question for you: Besides being in therapy, what’s the best way to deal with expressing your traumatic experiences? Current or past.
Like… I guess I learned, or just being unaware how bad my relationship is with my parents currently affecting my mental mental health. Not knowing enough about PTSD, it’s not that… because the traumatic thing I’m most concerned about is still actively going on. Present isn’t past . So that doesn’t even line up with P in PTSD.
@leannescarlett That is a great question.
I think sometimes, being around others, who suffered the same thing you did or close to it, could be helpful.
Why?
Because they understand first hand, what it is like.
Sometimes it is better then traditional therapy.
I am not saying therapy does not work, because it does work for most people.
But have other peers to support you, will help you a great deal.
So maybe join an online support group.
Maybe even check out some of the support rooms here at 7cups.
In all the rooms, members help and support other members.
Some members come to the rooms, looking for support as well.
The chatrooms at 7cups are free of charge.
I hope this helps.
Hi there. Thank you for your thoughts about this too. I know what I need. But in my mind, of the way I try and explain it to anyone. My idea isn’t a thing, I guess …
After given up on crisis lines. I reached out to my local NAMI. Then even with all the information they have been given me via email. I’m giving up on them too. They are great but it’s the anxiety. I can’t even get myself to do a zoom support group through NAMI. Anxiety is that bad
@leannescarlett I'm surprised that you did not have a bad childhood but you still have difficulty coping. Maybe you have repressed childhood memories.
In regards to me, I try to cope in every way offered. Not feeling much better still.
ummm… well if you define “repressed childhood? Memories. I was adopted at 11 month old baby. Just a month shy from my 1st birthday. So, I know now… that my separation anxiety could have come from my adoption. Which blows my mind. Super confusing being a baby. I guess for example: you are a Christian (Believer in God/ Jesus died for our sins) to someone who isn’t a Christian. They would be lost/confused.Hope understood this .
