Bullying

In fifth grade all of my best friends turned against me. At school they would tell me to do terrible things to myself and tell me that I was worthless and wouldnt be missed. The bullying followed me home through social media. I just felt like it wasnt worth it anymore and I had given up.

I survived but the events still haunt me. The smallest things trigger flashbacks and its really frustrating. Its been 4 years and I so desperately want to move past it. I thought that all the small flashbacks were just normal and that everyone experiences things like that. It wasnt until recently that something slightly bigger happened and it caused me to have a breakdown. I just really wish that I could move on from it, it makes me feel so terrible that I cant just get over it like my friends do.

Hi there,

Tbh comparing your pain with that of your friends is probably the most self-destructive thing you can do. They are all suffering in some way, most likely.

Anyway, my guess would be that you are a sensitive person, who gets bullied and traumatised more easily than most, and needs more time to recover than most.

There's no shame in being sensitive. On the other hand bullying is disgusting - it's the bullies who could do with the wake up call, not you.

I'm afraid that a sensitive body takes longer to recover. Make sure you stick like glue to your sensitive friends, and do gentle things together.

Therapy will help too, of course.
