How Do I Get Over Such A Traumatic Situation?

I want to start off by saying that this looks to be such an amazing community and resource to talk to and get help for so many issues. Im hoping this will work for me as well.

This is gonna be a bit of a long story, so here goes...

Starting back in 1986, my dads first wife suddenly began making false allegations that I was being sexually abused by members of my moms side of my family.

Fast forward three or four years later, and it got to the point where on at least one occasion, she took me to a hospital and made those claims to doctors. I was examined, naturally, and when it was determined that nothing had happened to me and that there was absolutely no evidence of this womans claims, she was told that if she attempted to do something like that again, they would contact the police and have her arrested.

During that same time, I was taken to visits with my dad and this woman at their house. It was also during these times where I first began getting told to go along with her false allegations and say that I had been sexually abused, with the impression (though not directly stated) that something bad would happen to me if I didnt. When youre that young, you naturally expect to have to do what an adult tells you to do, so at that time, I felt as though I had no other choice, despite knowing that nothing like that had ever happened to me.

Not long after, the entire situation ended up going to court. In the end, the entire case was dismissed due to a lack of evidence on the part of this woman. I then ended up being taken care of by my grandparents (my moms parents) while my mom and her then-fiancée at the time were making wedding plans. I enjoyed every bit of time I could spend with my grandparents, and they ALWAYS took very good care of me. After a while though, I ended up having to go live with my dad and this woman because he, for some reason, had decided to file for custody of me. I was with my mom and her husband after they got married, and the police - as well as my dad and this woman - showed up to their apartment and I was essentially forced away from them.

That entire situation, coupled with what all had happened before, caused me to have very bad nightmares for as long as I could remember.

Fast forward just over 30 years later, and I suddenly started thinking about all of that once again out of nowhere, especially all of the false sexual abuse allegations that I was forced to go along with. Ive also been experiencing nightmares similar to what I had back then, which is naturally causing me to not sleep very well at night a lot of times. I started talking to my grandmother (my dads mom) about everything, and she didnt even know about a lot of the details.

On top of all of that, I got a text message from my half sister a couple weeks ago telling me that I needed to have my mother leave her mother (my dads first wife who caused all the trouble to begin with) alone, and that my mother had apparently decided to message this woman via Facebook to confront her about what happened all those years ago. Naturally, I had no idea my mother had even done this, but I nevertheless opened up to my half sister and told her every bit of what happened and how her mother was involved in it. Of course, she didnt believe me and even tried telling me you dont know what happened all those years ago. OK, Im sorry, but when you‘re forced to go through a traumatic experience such as that, regardless of how young you are, you never, ever forget it. Ive put it down to my half sister likely hearing about all of this for the first time and not wanting to believe that her mother could ever be involved in something like that.

To this day, this woman has never acknowledged what she put me through, nor has she ever apologized to either me or any member of my family for what she did. My guess is since shes still clearly denying her role in he situation, that isnt going to happen anytime soon.

I absolutely do not know how to deal with this or get over it adequately enough. The thought of speaking to a therapist has crossed my mind, but Im unsure if my health insurance currently covers something like that or not. All I know is Im tired of the nightmares, the depression, the feelings of trauma I experienced then and continue to feel today, and the fact that this woman is taking zero responsibility and not apologizing for her actions.

My question is...how exactly do I start getting over this to the point where I no longer feel this way? What could be wrong with me to cause me to not stop thinking about these situations?
