I need some help with something
So I have this issue that I can't get past. Even writing this is an opposite action. I have a mental block when it comes to taking pain killers. Like as in, I won't take them, when I'm in pain I've been taught that I shouldn't take pain killers, toothache, headache, cramps, muscular problems, no, I just grin and bear it, even when people offer me pain killers, i say no, that i'll be ok, that i'm ok, when i'm not, i'm in pain but i won't take pain killers.
Because because while i was in rehab i was denied pain killers. my ankle was swollen and i couldnt walk, no, you're just attention seeking, you don't need them. i learned to live with the pain. not even when i had a tooth extracted, they wouldn't give me pain killers afterwards, i was just seeking attention, that christians don't take pain killers, they just pray it away, just go and pray or you're attention seeking, you don't need them.
So now I just can't, I have a headache, still don't take them. the only exception is when i have my period and get horrible cramps on the first day that its debilitating sometimes. I can take any other medication absolutely fine, but ibprofen or panadol, nope, can't take it, won't take it.
I need some help beating this. Rationally I know that taking pain meds doesn't make me any less christian, but its more the i don't deserve it, i don't need it, i'm faking it, more the i don't need it or deserve it though.
I know that what they did was neglect and a form of abuse, but it doesn't get rid of the block in my head...
@Tenacity37 Hey, I can understand how frustrating mental block can be and I think the way to beat them is to become more conscious of them. Like what thoughts run in your head when you are in pain but not taking the painkillers apart from - 'I don't deserve it etc. Sometimes the bad experiences add to your core beliefs and they are the hardest to get rid of, but remember they are 'hardest' not impossible.
I want to understand what goes in my mind when you say to yourself 'let me take a painkiller and see what are the consequences', I am not sure if you even think that but you can do this short exercise of evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of painkillers when you're genuinely in pain. If you need more help understanding your thought process and beating the blocks, please pm me and I will help you as much as I can.
Here is a link if you would like to understand more how Negative automatic thoughts gradually create blocks which seems impossible to beat: https://www.resilient-mindset.com/2012/10/22/negative-automatic-thought/
Hope this helps!! :) Take care!

I can relate to what you are saying totally. As the wife of a minister people say crazy stuff. You know your self and your body. God knows you and He only wants what is best for us/ Do't let anyone make you feel that way.
You be encouraged and do what you need to for your self.

You know church stuff has played a very negative part in my life for a long time. Not so much with God but with his people. Church people tend to be so judgemental. My husband is a minister preach one thing and live another. Shady people. I go I listen when he preaches and its as if he foregets I am in the congregation and that I live with him. Boldly lying and I have to always pretend all is well when I know the man is totally different at home. I realize we all have flaws. But why is the expectations for me different then for them It confuses me makes my faulty thinking worst. taking pain pills an attention getter someone needs to get real. My husband preached christians don't smoke cause he stopped but he was chewing tobacco. Would not touch that
