The robbery

Ok so i dont think its a trauma, i dont even know if this post belongs here but it seems to be the best place to post it. Im not sure if it deserves trigger warning, i think no but i honestly dont know.

This happened when I was 9 years old. I remember i was at home with my little brother and my grandma, my parents went out for dinner and my elder brother was out with friends. My little brother was already in his room sleeping, i shared with my grandma and we just got into bed when i heard a strange noise. She asked me what it was, i assumed it was just a cat or dog in the street. After a few minutes we hear my mom crying and rushing up stairs. We turn lights on and go check on my mom, before we left my bedroom we see a man holding my mom and pointing a gun to her head, she asked the man to not hurt us, he order us to stay where we were and not move. They left, we were sitting in our beds and my grandma started crying she started mumbling things about maybe they hurt or killed my dad and who knows what. I calmed her, said he was probably alright she didnt need to worry everything was going to be okay. We stay there for a few minutes until my mom called us, she told us she didnt know what to do, my dad was laying on the floor and there was a lot of blood (he is alive). I told her to call an ambulance, so i looked for her phone and gave it to her. She asked me and grandma to call the neighbors, so we went outside and tried to call them, they didnt listen so we went to the garage and into the car and honk. They finally came, we called the ambulance from health insurance and then the police. When they arrived my dad was already up, trying to stop the bleeding.

Apparently the two men got in when they were parking the car, my dad thought it was just one so he tried to stop him but gave up when he saw the other man. And they knocked him out, they hit the back of his head with the gun. They only took a phone and some money.

When the ambulance came they took care of my dad in dinning room, he got stitches. I remember i was in the next room shacking, and they gave me something to calm down and be able to sleep.

I dont think i have a trauma, but if i start remembering the details i do cry or get upset. My parents, specially my mom, were really shocked with the experience, my mom was afraid of going out at night for like a year. From that moment we are always super careful, always alert, always safe. It can be stressful, but its for the best. I dont like that they always tell this story, every meeting they talk about robberies. I hate it, but i understand its their way of dealing with it, i know they worry. The last time they told the story i wasnt even listening, i just heard a part and i knew they were talking about it, my mom was saying how calm i was in that moment. It gave me a nightmare and thought about it all day yesterday, reason why im here now. I thought i was over it, maybe i am. I dont know, i guess is absolutely normal to cry over a expirience like that even if it was like 10 years ago.

It's heartbreaking what you'll when through such a traumatic experience.. and no Ur most valid in sharing Ur story here

Have Ur parents ever asked how 'u' felt.. people just assume calmness with being okay.. sometimes. The mind can't process it any other way.

@energeticPenny8 i dont think they ever asked me how i felt about it, they probably did that night but i dont have memory of it. I know i was calmed and felt like i had to take control of the situation bc my mom and grandma were on shock, i kind of avoided thinking about it for years, then dealt with it and cried a lot. Thats why it surprised me i still felt so upset

@MelRose97 I think you did what you felt you needed to do given the situation. Seeing someone you deeply care about almost die would shock most people. To feel upset about it is okay, your feelings are valid even if it seemed like it shouldn't affect you now. We're very glad to have you and though this was posted a while ago, I'm very glad you were brave enough to write it here. Welcome to seven cups of tea, we welcome you with open arms!
