I don't know if I'm only writing to myself but here goes. I got adopted from a young age but as soon as I went into high-school they started abusing me. They handed me over to the police and told them to lock me up. Threw knifes at me and smashed a plate over my spine. I still have the video replaying in my head some nights and it was over a year ago. I havnt dealt with it I just berried my head in the sand hoping it will all go away but my dreams somehow manage to make me remember what I don't want to.........

Hey Cherry,

I'm sorry to hear you were abused by your adoptive family. I can't imagine the kind of imprint the violence must've left upon you. Even when we know that it's not happening right now, the memories just rewind and play over and over. We are reminded of how we felt in that moment. And it can be so hard to deal with those overwhelming emotions. In those moments, you may even experience thoughts along the line of "Why didn't I do this?" or "Why didn't I say that?". It's okay to feel this way. It's important to remember that you had no control whatsoever over how they treated you..

Burying your head in the sand may not be a healthy way of dealing with your past, but at the same time, opening up is terrifying. Being vulnerable and opening up to someone about your innermost thoughts and feelings is nothing like easy. Take your time..

Here is an article that speaks on opening up after traumatic experiences. I hope it helps!

Take care
