Vacation Turned Traumatic

My name is Dustin, I am 40 years ago, and about to start nursing school this fall. Last week, my partner and I went to New Orleans for vacation. Last Thursday night, it seems I was separated from him walking around at night, and I was beaten, mugged, and raped. The police were nice and took my statement, and filed a report. I had no clue of the raping portion, until they questioned me being found naked. It was so scary, and now I am angry at the world, and feel ashamed of myself. I have good days and bad days, but today is not a good day, I am angry and confused. I go to counseling on June 8th. What I have learned from all of this is that New Orleans is a city riddled with thugs and high crime. That is still no excuse.

You were not at fault. I'm glad you are seeking help. You have been violated. You have every right to be hurt.

It ismy personal belief that feeling angry hurts yourself first and foremost. If that is what is happening, try and let go of the anger as much as you can.

Be kind to yourself. Try and show yourself loving kindness. Be patient with yourself. Try and be strong.
