Victimization Is Never Your Fault

There are many victims (survivors of trauma) in this group, who have been through a variety of challenges in their lives, pertaining to these types of abnormal experiences:

-violence

-sexual assault

-human trafficking

-wrongful incarceration

-kidnapping

-injustices

-maltreatment

It is pertinent for victims to know, that they are not responsible for what happened to them. They are not their trauma; they are their own persons. Every single human being is valuable, and is worthy of respect, dignity, and fair/good treatment. Every individual possesses a wide range of positive traits, characteristics, and talents, which are not taken away despite going through any situation in their lives, and their value and worth are not determined by specific situations that they have gone through.

If you are a victim who has encountered something that has victimized or hurt you in any way, it is important to not place any blame on yourself for what happened to you, and to know that this experience(s) was not your fault. Others make their own choices, and these choices have nothing to do with you. Counsellors, for example, say that people will victimize others, in order to build themselves up, and feel powerful. Some people prefer to feel that sense of control, and will engage in bad/wrong choices towards others. So, it is crucial that a victim do not take others' actions personally. These have nothing to do with them.

For any victims in this group, stay strong, and know that you have many coping options available, in order to recover, and to heal from your traumatic experiences. Utilizing healthy coping methods, instead of resorting to negative or unhealthy-type behaviours are a positive way to deal with abnormal events which may have happened to you, that may or not have been expected to happen by one. A lot of trauma survivors have encountered situations that they did not expect to happen in their lives.

I feel it is also important to reach out to trustworthy, supportive people who will be able to listen to you without judging you, or what you've been through, and act as positive sources of support, who you can communicate with, regarding what you have went through. Some examples of these types of supportive persons include: family members, relatives, friends, teachers, counsellors, spiritual leaders, group leaders, and other support persons. There are also people in this group, who may have went through the same encounters as yourself, so one needs not to feel alone if having gone through victimization-type experiences.

Any thoughts on this particular subject are welcome.
