You Are Not Powerless
After going through negative traumatic experiences, it is important to remember that you are now in control of your life and your destiny. You may have encountered painful experiences at the hand of others, but how you choose to live your life now, is up to you. You don't have to adopt negative coping behaviours as a reaction to unfortunate events. You can choose healthier coping mechanisms. Just because a person(s) may have mistreated you, it doesn't mean you deserved the maltreatment, or that you should treat yourself in the same poor way.
You can now choose to make wise, healthy decisions within your life. You can choose to take care of yourself (physically, emotionally, and mentally), you can choose to exercise to release negative and stressful emotions, you can choose to eat healthy foods, you can choose to spend time with supportive people (family, friends, etc.), you can choose to do activities which you love to do; you can choose to do activities which will help and heal you.
You are not powerless. You can choose to move forward in your recovery.

@IsabelleJ Thank you so much Isabelle for this great post. It is very hard for Survivors to feel they can take back control over their lives, their emotions, their body after suffering trauma or abuse but as your post describes so well, Survivors can make choices after trauma, to heal, to recover, to take care of themselves, to do things which can ultimately heal them. Its not always easy to do first of all, but with time and patience, each Survivor can start to adopt healthier chooses for them :)
