Confused about what comes next

August 18th, 2016

Heylo.

Ive been diagnosed with PTSD and BDD. I've been in therapy for about 6 months now and I've been working on coming to terms with the last few years of my life in general, and where to go next. I'm between therapists at the moment (I've just started with a new therapist after 6 months in an intensive outpatient program) and... I'm kind of struggling right now.

I'm not sleeping at nights lately which is really troubling me... and I'm having troubles in my relationship, feelings of self doubt are peaking up again after having improved pretty substantially, albeit superficially, but hey.

I'm struggling to get to the root of what's disturbing me. There are two things my previous therapist said to me at our last meeting that stuck out... the relevant one being that situations in our life tend to reoccur until we have learned to deal with them properly or have come to terms with whatever we need to come to terms with.

The issue is I have close to no idea what it is that I need to come to terms with, or more so in WHAT WAY I'm supposed to come to terms with this issue.

I also think that my current relationship is holding me back from truly being myself and exploring this issue safely emotionally, my bf is great he's just a big trigger.

So yep. Kind of vague but I just realized that I'm really stuck on this issue and I'm just reaching out, not sure what I'm looking for exactly.

Thanks

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing your concerns in the forums today, it's a big step to make, and I wanted to thank you for this.

Im pleased to hear you are already seeing professionals regarding your circumstances, and I think it's important to remember this process takes time to understand, many twist and turns, sometimes not to pleasant to endure, but the fact is, the professional work in a particular way to get the best out of your situation, they can teach you many coping methods and techniques for when you come to the time of facing the issues which are causing you distress, it's a journey, which doesn't matter how long it takes you to travel, and every little step, is a step in the right direction, even if you have wobbles along the way, which is probably to be expected, it's still a step, a step forward. Try not to look to far ahead, this may cause further distress for you, and put yourself into high expectation mode, try to just deal with the hear and now, therapy is much more balanced if you just focus on each session, rather than much further down the line.

I think your already very brave for wanting to face this head on, that takes some courage you know...... Give yourself time to accept, your a winner in my eyes already.

Take care, and best of luck
