Internalized beliefs that hurt me

I have an internalized belief that a guy is always going to try and hurt me or take advantage of me sexually. It's terrible. I'm always afraid of being alone with them and I hate how I flinch whenever I'm with another guy on a date just because I'm afraid he will hurt me even though he wasn't going to.

Whenever a guy listens to my problems and tries to help, I appreciate it but there's always that stupid thought in the back of my head saying "hmm he could be doing this just so he can date you". I wish more guys understood I'm not trying to be sexist in any way.. I promise.. There are just some much-internalized beliefs that I heard as a child. I'm afraid of dating guys because male anger is a trigger for me because of my abusive father. I had adults constantly telling me "men are pigs" or "men are trash". I don't know what is going on. I'm sorry

Even if I'm not dating a guy and I hear him being angry, I freeze and leave so I don't become part of it... it sucks so much.

I know there are good guys out there but I just can't help notice that I have these triggers.

@Alwayshungry983 Many of us carry this distrust, either because of something in our past or the way we have been socialized. Not having that comfort in make relationships can get lonely, and it does suck. Have you ever told a male friend about the way you struggle with this?

@ZeppelinsOverhead

Actually I never have. I guess I'm kinda afraid of how they would react

@Alwayshungry983 That's totally understandable. Where do you see your relationships going if you continue under this belief?
