Memory flashbacks (not negative memories)

2.5 months ago I lost my abusive husband suddenly, after I left him. I'm suffering from PTSD and having random memories from my past just pop up constantly. They aren't bad memories, just ones I haven't had in ages. Has anyone else had this happen? I've been through a lot of stress so I'm guessing it's part of the PTSD.

Memories resurfacing after we leave a traumatic situation is common. My therapist told me that when we start to recover lost memories, it sometimes means that our brain has decided we can handle having those memories back.

I've definitely had this happen with positive memories a few times and personally it feels a little confusing at first and sometimes jarring because I don't know what to do with the positive memories sometimes.

I'm wondering what the experience might be like for you!

That's how I'd explain it too - confusing. Because they aren't negative memories. They're just...memories of random things from my life. I'm sure it's something to do with my brain processing things and is part of PTSD. Like you said, I am also letting in memories of him now, 3 months later. I hadn't been able to do that before. Our brains are very adept at helping us process, I've noticed. Thank you for your response 🙏

Those are flashbacks, they are entirely normal after experiencing trauma. They should decrease with time, you’ll be okay. Hang in there!
