PTSD - dealing with triggers
Even with the best intentions, most counselors lack depth understanding and/or training in quantum mechanics of sustained trauma resulting from long-duration childhood sexual abuse and adult near-death violent rape. There is a need for simple, effective tools to navigate a triggered episode, whether it is just vapors of a memory, or an actual personality fragment that is acting out, and ready to be healed.
My experience has been that counselors are usually compassionate and caring, but there seems to be a serious disparity between book-learning versus practical help in the areas of Complex PTSD and D.I.D. Are there short cuts to circumventing a triggered episode? What if a dissociated fragment is carrying their "story" and needs to be heard in order to be healed? How can we get to that story? How can we track lost memories? Is it possible to find common core themes and do "batch healing" for multiple fragments? Without tools, a triggered episode is scary & baffling; it is not uncommon for depression, agoraphobia, and suicidal thoughts to set in for months before it is somehow abated.
The long-term goal is healing & integration. Short-term need is crisis management for triggered episodes.
Do you know a well-connected counselor with a broad network of psychiatric affiliates, who can help locate someone who specializes in D.I.D.? I have been making do with well-meaning, but woefully inadequate support for a very long time! Thanks ever so much for helping me find the right person to help me walk this extremely challenging journey.
I would also like to hear about healing experiences along these lines, especially if you have a spiritual focus. Not religious, but spiritual.
Its about communication and cooperation. Sorry, cant see post, but self care and recognising that you are triggered but being able to stay present. Grounding tools. Kindness and compassion for all parts. Listening to parts.
Theres alot.
Integration is not necessarily what you want though.
And IMHO rehashing memories is not needed for all.
Learning to communicate and cooperate is key.
Sorry. I typing on phone and its a pain.
Best wishes.
