PTSD from childbirth

Just over two and a half years ago I gave birth to a baby. A time when I should have been supported and cared for turned into a time where I felt abandoned and fearful for my baby's life. My life was also put at risk.

Anyone else experienced PTSD due to a traumatic labour?

@MrsS347 Thanks for your post Mrs. What kind of support did you have around this time to help you cope with the experiences you described?

@dancingRainbow45 I had my husband and eventually a midwife who seemed to care at the very end.

@MrsS347 Im glad you had some support for yourself during this time. Was the midwife appreciative of the difficulties you were going through?

@dancingRainbow45 yeah she told me to complain about the staff members who helped things go wrong, which I did. I was called in for a meeting and my complaints were validated and I felt like I had every right to feel the way I did. It did go terribly wrong and the fault was on those staff members...

@MrsS347

I am very sorry you had to go through that. I can see why you would be traumatized by something that dangerous and especially something you had no control over.

I am very glad however that you got support in the end from people you care about. You must be a very strong woman and I hope things are doing better for you know. You deserve it after such a rough time. heart

Much love !

I am a birth doula and childbirth educator. I also have PTSD (mine is not from childbirth). I know how very real birth trauma can be. I am so sorry that your birth was like that for you. I hope that you can walk through that experience with someone and work through what happened. Im glad the hospital validated your concerns. Have you been able to talk with someone about the details of that experience and process it with them?
